"Bill we've been playing cards all morning, can we please go do something fun now?" I complained, hating the feeling of the summer sun on the back of my neck.
"I-I can't be in m-my roo-room right now." Bill shuffled his deck. "Pl-plus this is th-the only time I-I have with Geo-Georgie." He said referring to after lunch when the younger kids were taken across camp to do safer activities while we swam and had campfire hours for the rest of the evening. I groaned and told him I'd only play one more game.
"How's your roommate?" I asked Bill, listening to George hum a song while he waited for his turn. Bill shrugged, a weird look on his face.
"H-he doesn't t-talk much." Bill sighed. "Not to me, anyway. He's just been practicing something for his jew-jewish uh, mitzvah th-thing."
"You should help him practice, Billy." Georgie spoke up suddenly, giggling a moment later as if he'd said nothing at all. I grimaced. Maybe Georgie was right. It almost made me want to do something with my cabinmate.
C'mon Eddie, it's only day two. Who knows, maybe you and Richie will become friends. Yeah right.
"I'm going to my cabin," I stood up, feeling under someone else's control almost. What was I doing?
"H-have fun, E-Ed," Bill calls out as I head towards the B cabins. I rolled my eyes, walking faster than usual in attempts to avoid any trouble on the way. As I was nearing the cabin door, Henry stops me. I was so close.
"Where ya going, girly boy?" He growled. I flinched back, reaching for my inhaler. He tore it from my grip, throwing it a few feet away. "You're not gonna need this shit where you're going." He pulled my by my shirt collar, dragging me behind my cabin and throwing me to the ground.
"What do you want, Henry?" I ask, not in the mood for him or the pain in my back.
"Aw, girly boy. I just wanted to be friends," he says, trying to look nice.
"Thanks, but no thanks." I groan. "Can I go now?"
Henry looks taken aback, and glares at me. "Listen, I don't appreciate your tone."
"Look I'm sorry but I've got a lot of rest to do, my mom doesn't even like me on the bare ground especially earthy ground like this. Not to mention my pills, man. I've gotta take my pills at a certain hour or I'll just -" I'm cut off when he kicks my side.
Henry reached down, tugging a fistful of my hair, pulling my head towards him as he anrgilly stared me down. I whimpered, "Can somebody help me, please?"
I looked around, we were in between my cabin and Bill's yet I knew he wouldn't come to my rescue anytime soon what with him being in the center with his brother. My eyes finally caught a glimpse of dark hair, peering around the cabin to see what the noise was about.
"Richie? Richie! Help me, please!" I begged, hoping he wouldn't deny me because of what had happened day one.
"Nobody's here to help you, everyone went back to their cabins, isn't that right?" Henry looked straight at me him now. I gulped.
Richie didn't answer, he only stared.
"See? We're all alone." Henry smirked, kicking me once again. I began to cry, forcing my eyes shut.
"Hey asshole," I heard Richie say suddenly. My eyes flew open, I stared at him in awe.
"Leave him alone."
