TWO YEARS AGO...
Today was going to be different. Amelia could feel it in her bones the second she awoke when her blaring alarm had shocked her to reality. Andrew had muttered profanities under his breath at her god-forsaken alarm that always left them annoyed more than anything. Amelia for possibly the first time in her life was thrilled to be awoken by her horrid alarm. She leaned into her boyfriend and lazily laced his slumbering body with delicate kisses. Each tattooing his body in gentle reminders of the love that fluttered for him within Amelia.
"Who are you and what have you done with my grumpy Amelia," Andrew muttered as he grasped her hips and pulled her into his warm body.
"She's here, she's always here" Amelia whispered against his neck. This blonde bundle of goodness held her heart in his hands and there was no trace of fear that his gentle hold would suddenly become menacing. He had this way of existing that was so honest and wonderful, one could hardly blame Amelia for falling so earnestly.
It had taken a lot of strength to finally get out of the comfort her bed and more so Andrew's arms because he had a much more fun way of spending their morning than opening up Coffee Cantina. But there she was with her hair in a loose braid and her mouth humming to the tune of the speakers. She had connected her phone before anyone could stop her and forced them all to endure her playlist that only consisted of the most sickly love songs she could gather.
Her phone buzzed for the fifth time that afternoon and the reason for it was her boyfriend who just texted to remind her that he would be home by six and that she should wear something nice. Her colleagues attempted to convince her that she would soon be sporting a diamond ring but knowing she and Andrew were not in the most lucrative position, as they both had rather simple jobs, she continued to tuck that fantasy away.
She walked home with a skip in her step, flushed cheeks from all the teasing that ensued at work and a grateful heart. She did not have a lot but she was so blissfully happy with the life she had been blessed with. She was a resident of the city that never slept, a dream she had nurtured since the school field trip when she was sixteen. She lived with the love of her life. The actual embodiment of joy. She had nothing to complain about, truly. She entered their small apartment and the familiar vanilla scent coated her in merriment.
As she flittered between the items of clothing hung in her closet, she listened to the light chatter of the television she had switched on upon entering the apartment. Hating the echoing silence when Andrew wasn't around. As most people, she had gone through her closet about five times before she concluded that she had nothing to wear and resorted to the clothes that had fallen into the floor of her closet that she had yet to pick up.
In between the mess of clothing, she found a light summer dress. Long enough to reach her ankles and the sleeves ended about two inches from her elbow. The deep navy shade splattered with tiny little red roses allowed for a more smart-casual look depending on the shoe she chose to wear. Having no idea what Andrew had planned she opted for tiny little heels that would suit any occasion. Amelia didn't attempt much with her hair and simply released it from its braid which had caused a beautiful curl to her hair.
"Babe," Andrew's voice spread into their bedroom before his messy blonde head followed in. A prideful smile cracked on his face as she spun around to face him.
