Chapter 12
(Aidan's POV)
I have never felt the need to die, until now.
When she looked at me with weariness and uncertainty. It felt as if someone ripped out my heart and threw it on the ground. Every bone in my body was quaking in pain as my wolf howled sorrowfully. I felt like I was going to collapse and when I realized that this wasn't some part of a sick dream, and she honestly didn't know who I am, I gave up my will to live.
I was nothing but an empty shell without my other half. Fate was being desperately, cruel. Luna told me that this was going to happen but I didn't really hit me until I had to tell her my name. Like I was a stranger and we had never met before. I never realized how much the mating bond and her memories played a part in our relationship.
And I would do anything to have that small piece of warmth in her eyes that used to secretly, spark inside her eyes. But now nothing is left but a cold mask.
"What is the Prince of Wolves, doing in my kingdom, may I ask?"
My heart pinged painfully and my wolf remained silent, trying to soak in the sound of her voice but even that, was thinned with ice. I thought back to my original mission and decided to play it safe by pretending that's what I was here for.
"My father had sent me here to inquire about an treaty that could possibly be formed between our kingdoms."
Her stony glare remained and she didn't even seem to ponder over my request before answering,
"No. I will not have my vampires fight side by side with dogs, when it is not even our fight in the first place."
I gave her a alarmed look and pleaded with my eyes,
"You do know what happens when you decline a treaty, correct?"
Her face turned bitter,
"Are you implying that I don't?"
I resisted the urge to sigh, my mate was still as stubborn as ever.
"I was not implying it, I was simply asking a question, I'm sorry if I offended you in any shape or form."
Refusing to back down she replied,
"I do in fact know what that means, and I expect you to be out of my kingdom very soon."
Why did she have to refuse! She knows if you reject a treaty than you are automatically arch enemies! I can't go to war with my loved one. It would be like running a sword through my own heart.
I didn't realize that she was waiting for me to answer until I noticed the faint twitch of her eyebrow. Trying to conceal my inner turmoil, I placed a fake smirk on my face,
"You know what they say. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer."
With a small snap of her fingers, the guy behind her and a few other guards, guided me towards the exit. I looked back one last time and savored her image, before going into the cold blizzard of snow and making my way home.
For a second, I could have sworn I heard her whisper something but the roar of the wind was to overpowering.
