I was on the tracks, crawling fastly to avoid the trechurous pain of the train's edged bottom. Aside me lay Daniel's body, strapped onto my foot tightly. He was still dazed, unable to speak. I looked backwards once in a while to check on him. He saved my life. I think he deserves some saving back.
"Penny, wake up."
Thoughts swirling in my brain, I listened to the voice and perked up, elbows on the smooth surface underneath my body. There was Daniel, blood smeared over his face, scrapes on his arms and bare chest, with his knees on the bedding.
"What just happened..." I yawned out.
"Adaine punched you. I sensed it and stalled him, then brought you here."
I shifted my head side to side and viewed my surroundings. "Where is 'here'?"
"My house. Look, I shouldn't have brought you to the tracks, but I wanted you to meet someone."
"That someone punched my face!" I barked anxiously,
"No no no, not Adaine. There was somebody on the train, ready to jump off in sight of us. Adaine must've gotten him. I didn't know it'd be that fast- it never is that fast- unless Adaine messes with it." He responded.
"Who is this 'Adaine' and why did he say he's part of the Evils?"
"Because he is. The Evils hate me. Me and my friend. Now they know you're here, and they'll want you more than either me or Cane."
I sighed, releasing my weight and letting myself lie flat on the bed.
"I didn't know Adaine would be there. He probably thought I'd meet up with Cane because I wasn't home- or they didn't see me."
I knew I recognized that voice. So stern and old.
"You had a bloody nose, I put a gauze there and replaced it. You can dispose of it as you want, it's all done now. As for your eye, well, it's blackened. I rested ice there. Does it hurt?"
He tapped the lid of my eye, pressing gently against the sensitive area. I felt so relieved; so in need of that boost of energy from his hand.
"It's perfect. Thanks for asking, and helping."
I was reviewing the words he exchanged earlier and my face turned to stone.
"You 'sensed' it?"
He twiddled his thumbs a bit, whistling under his breath.
"I used to be an Evil. Evils aren't..." he swiped his chin. "...human."
"Then what are you?" The intensity in his voice made me drool. I was awaiting the answer.
"Superhuman."
