I sat in the bag for a while, gaining claustrophobia minute by minute. I heard a door slam shut, and I was launched from inside the bag to the cold hard marble ground.
"So, you thought you could escape."
It was Adaine, covered in a dark brown cloak, rubbing his hands together for warmth.
"See, I had some help from your little friend."
He moved his hand towards a door, and it budged open, revealing Daniel wearing a similar cloak, hood down, drooping his chin as low as it could go.
"Don't be so sad, my future son-in-law, you completed your task."
I kept my eyes on him, and peeked at his mouth, taped shut so tight that his nose twitched when he breathed.
He mumbled back, trying to reply to the statement, but Adaine shushed him, holding up his long pointer finger, so pale and skinny.
"Look honey, my daughter will be marrying Daniel Saturday. You stay in your cell until then, then you go back home. My daughter will get her way, and you can't stop me."
I was so angry, my head almost popped off from the pressure of the heat in my skull. He was being forced to do this. Right?
"Daddy, I'm-"
Sydney stopped to laugh, looking at me condensed in rope and at Daniel, probably trying to seduce him or something of the sort.
"Daniel, honey-boo, I can't wait for tomorrow!"
She gracefully leaped towards him and pecked him on his forehead. Once she turned and face her father, Daniel shook his head as forcefully as he could. When he stopped, he looked at me with sorrow in his eyes. I felt a connection so strong with him, I could read his mind.
Penny, this isn't what it looked like.
Then what is it, because it seems to me that you betrayed me.
He bowed his head. I didn't. They found you on their own after hours of beating me up, asking me where you went.
Tension freed the room, making it easier to telepathecally reach into his mind.
This is all my fault. I'm sorry for forcing you to leave me here.
My emotions meshed together, forming one big whirlwind of thoughts. You didn't force me. You wanted me to stay safe. So, you're marrying Sydney, aren't you.
Unless you have a better option, I have to in order for you to leave.I want to stay with you. Either here or anywhere else, I want you by my side. Forever. Promise me that will happen.
I lost touch with him as he moved away from me. Sydney brought him back into the walls of the hallway, and I was left with Adaine.
"You'll be staying in a cell one floor up from here. Guards, please carry her to her room."
And there I was, being lifted up towards my doom, foot by foot, worrying about so many things that I didn't need to worry about. There was only one thing I needed on my mind.
Daniel.
