I picked my soul up, lugging it forwards, and kicked on my engine. I steered my way through the wooden bedroom opening and hustled outside, never pausing to find out where I was headed. I went into a pile of leaves, giving myself a breather. Why did I run? He was so nice to me... but he lied. He's an evil death machine, why would I have stayed?
I glanced downwards at my body: strands of silk leaning out of the bandage fabric, scars inching towards each other, and redness consuming my appendages. I didn't fully heal. Why did I think I could last another wild day outside?
I cleared my brain. The thoughts spewed out of my ear, one by one. I was breathing heavily, sweating crazily, and trying to catch up with myself. I leaned forwards, glanced to my side, and saw the same view Daniel showed me before.
"Crap."
I didn't know what to do. I forgot which direction I came from. I paced back and forth, trying to figure out what is where.
A sudden bolt of lightning crashed against the leaves, inches away from my heart. I tipped over, holding myself up by a skinny tree branch. It started to pour, and all I could see in the darkness was a figure moving towards me. It looked slim, not too tall, not too short. I yelled for help, and my mouth was shut the entire time.
"Are you okay?" the feminine voice petered out.
"I'm fine, thanks."
She appeared in front of me with a bright white smile on her face. She had bright blonde hair which shimmered in the wind and her eyes were a deep dark brown lighting up at the site of the thunder. She wore a black plaid dress, which paired with her bright red clogs. Her face looked younger than me and her smile made it more clear. It never dimmed, shining like a flashlight.
"So, what's your name?"
When she said this is the storm lifted. It was like she controlled the weather with her happiness.
"Penelope."
"That's a pretty name. Mine's Sydney. Nice to meet you."
She held her hand out just like Daniel had done, and I remember what he called it. A hand shake. I led my hand towards hers, grasped it firmly, and shook it up and down. So that's what a hand shake is.
"Don't be so rough on me kiddo, that hurt! I can't believe someone who's that beaten up has the strength to do that!"
Did she doubt me?
"So what are you doing around these parts? Usually the only person here is me. Are you from Lakewood Valley?"
"No, no I'm not." I shook my head vigorously, showing that I never wanted to go to Lakewood ever again.
"Are you from Danover?"
She said this and backed away from me with caution. I think that she thought I was part of the Evils. Well, hopefully not.
"No, I'm an out of towner."
This time she truly pranced away from me, so elegantly I didn't even take into thought that she was frightened of me.
"I'm from Salem."
She let out a long breath, sighing in relief.
"Thank God. I thought you were some kind of hippie hobo wanting my money!" She laughed.
"Here, I'll bring you to my place. We'll get you some nice warm clothes that actually fit and a nice bed to sleep in for the night."
She waddled away, me watching her go and following close behind. Why is everyone so nice here? Aren't they all supposed to be evil?
Sydney smirked softly, laughed maniacally, and continued back onto her path.
Are they all evil?
