Stefan was in his hotel in Chicago knowing that tomorrow he'd be prosecuting Kai Parker. He sat on the bed flicking through the TV channels, bored until his phone rang, his screen reading "Caroline Forbes" and he smiled. The distance that had grown between them since that night, scared him, but she was still his best friend, she would always be his best friend. He picked up the call immediately answering with a quick "Hey" like always.

"Hey, how's it going?" Caroline knew that he was in Chicago for a case but Stefan hadn't told her that he'd taken her sister's case, he wanted it to be a surprise.

"Well I'm bored and freaking out about the case tomorrow. What about you?"

"Well all the couples are being couply, Matt and Enzo are trying to find dates and I'm at home all alone trying to figure out whether to watch Teen Wolf or Friends."

"Teen Wolf duh though something like CSI is better than both."

"Stefan, we've had this discussion before. Just because your career is in Crime doesn't mean that you should watch about it and then start moaning at me because it is a bad representation of the crime in real life." Stefan scoffed.

"It's still better than a sitcom about six 20 somethings in New York making you realise everything you are doing wrong with your life and a show about a bunch of teenagers who think they need to figure out everything in a supernatural town when they should be in school, making a life for themselves, though the latter is better."

"Hey, don't be mean to my shows, it makes me vulnerable."

"Well then don't watch shows that make me be mean to them."

"Oh my god, fine I'll just watch Teen Wolf, Friends is better to watch when you're here making snarky comments while still laughing at the scene." Stefan smirked.

"Okay should I eat a packet of Skittles or M&Ms as a snack while watching."

"Skittles duh, M&Ms are too chocolatey."

"Um hello that's sort of the point?" Caroline and Stefan got so engrossed into fighting over which sweets are better that Caroline didn't even hear Sherrif Forbes walk in watching her daughter fighting on the phone chuckling in the background.

"Okay I'm eating M&Ms and that's the tea on that."

"Dammit." Stefan clearly annoyed, said.

Liz, in the background finally cleared her throat causing a startled  Caroline to look at her directly.

"Mom, when did you get home?" That signal made Stefan realise that it was probably time for Caroline to go.

"Oh, just when you and Stefan were bickering like an old married couple."

Stefan chuckled softly and Caroline rolled her eyes in the background.

"Okay Stefan, I should probably go, Good luck for tomorrow."

"Thanks, and try not to make bad decisions again. Bye." Caroline smiled and rolled her eyes whilst thinking she hung up.

Liz smiled and shook her head and sat down next to Caroline in the couch and Caroline asked, "Mom?"

"Yes sweetie?"

"How did you know I was talking to Stefan?" Liz smiled again.

"Because, Caroline, you don't talk to anyone the way you talk to him. You guys just have so much fun together."

"I have fun with my other friends too."

Liz smiled again. "Not in the same way."

Caroline squinted. "Then in what way?"
