15: The Memories

Annabeth’s PoV:

Why? Why were the gods so cruel? First they don’t even care what we’ve got to say when they send us to school. And then this? They send him to me? I knew the gods were cruel, but not this cruel. After all I had been through this is what I get? When he had died, I felt as if someone had torn up my heart into little pieces and stamped on them. Now seeing him again, I felt as if someone had set fire to those little pieces. I couldn’t help myself. I let the tears fall out over my cheeks as I pull my knees closer to my chest. Then he comes around the corner. I can’t even bear to look at him. How did he come here? He looks exactly like Percy, exactly like him. He’s even around the same age as Percy.

“Hey, what’s wrong?” he asks. It’s even Percy’s voice. That makes me cry harder.

“Hey it’s okay,” he says and sits down next to me.

“I-I’m so-o s-sorry,” I say through my sobs.

“Hey, no look it’s probably my fault I…” That even sounds like something he’d say.

“N-no i-it’s not your fault…” I say slowly.

“Then what’s wrong?” he asks me. I take a deep breath. I don’t care if it’ll become a school rumor. I need to tell someone. I can’t keep it inside me anymore.

“Did you hear about that explosion in Rome?” I ask him. He nods at me. I chew my lip slowly.

“Well I was there… on vacation… with my boyfriend… and…” at this point tears start to pool in my eyes. “And… he died in the explosion…” I say as tears make their way down my cheeks.

“Oh I-I’m so sorry…” he says and looks down at is feet. “Did you love him?” he asks.

“I… yeah…the last words he said was that he loved me and I said I loved him too. He was so happy when I told him that and then, he passed,” I say crying again.

So what did I do?” he asks.

“It’s just that… you look exactly like him. You even sound like him. You act like him. It’s like you are him,” I shrug.

“Oh…” he says. We just sit in silence until…

“Ow! What was that? Ow!!” he says.

“What is it?” I ask him.

“Ever felt like someone was pounding your brain with a hammer?” he asks me.

“Ow! I… Lightning bolt…Ow!!... Sea of Monsters…ow ow ow!! Save Annabeth…” when he says my name I tense up. “Uff… Labyrinth… and…ouch! Kronos… youch! There’s…Thanatos…and… Owowowow!!! T-t-tartarus…” What was happening? What was he saying? “Agh! Then… save Annabeth…” His eyes flew open.

“Annabeth!” he shouts and tackles me in a hug. I can barely breathe.

“Can’t…breathe…” I choke out.

“Oh I’m so sorry!!” he releases me.

“How do you know my name?” I ask him.

“You don’t remember Percy Jackson, the guy who fell hopelessly in love with Annabeth Chase and saved her from certain death by Gaea?” he smiles at me.

“Percy?” I yell as I tackle him this time.

“Oh gods, I missed you to Wisegirl,” he tells me. I sob into his shirt.

“I thought you were dead…” I tell him.

“I know Annabeth… but I chose to be reborn…” he tells me.

“But you can’t be reborn exactly the same as before…”

“Yeah, that’s why I’m one year older then before…” He smiles down at me and I can see his eyes shining. I press my lips against his, and in that kiss, that one kiss I pour all my emotions. I put in all my love for him, and I show him how much I missed him. I feel him kiss me back with the same passion. I break apart and look at him. He is here. He is not dead. He is with me. I get up, and with his arm around my shoulder; I enter back into the auditorium. Then four kids fly to Percy.

“Where did you go Percy” asks one of the girls.

“Sorry guys…ummmm… this is my girlfriend Annabeth,” he tells them. “I met her at summer camp. Annabeth this is Alex, Sam, Tina and Jeremy.”

“Hi!” they all say. Behind me I hear Piper’s voice.

“Annabeth? Where were you? We were looking everywhere…” she stops dead when she sees Percy.

“Percy?” she asks slowly.

“The one and only,” he answers her.

“OMG!!! Grace, Valdez, Zhang, Levesque, get your butts over here, Percy’s back!!” she shouts. They all run up to him and group hug him.

“But how…?” Hazel asks.

“I was reborn. And now I’m one year older than before,” he told them.

“Ummmm… Percy?” asked Alex.

“Oh yeah! These are my friends, guys. Leo, Jason, Hazel, Frank, and Piper. And these are Tina, Jeremy, Alex and Sam,” he told them. For once I didn’t care about the school. I knew that this school year was going to be amazing. I had got my Seaweeed Brain back.
