4: We arrive

Percy’s PoV:

We just stand there staring at the horizon, not daring to even think of the horrible things that the future holds. I thought of Annabeth and what she had told me. I guess she was right. I mean, the Gods could’ve helped us, right? They could’ve come and helped us from falling down to Tartarus, but no. No they didn’t come to help us and then this is what we get? Another crazy, life-or-death quest? I finally got what Luke felt like now. I really just wanted to give up and sail back to Camp Half-Blood. Also, because of this stupid quest, I hadn’t even had time to see my mom! I wondered just how much she must be worrying about me and I decided to IM her this morning. We stood there, just watching the sunrise. It was completely beautiful. The sun was blood red and it reflected off the waters surface so that it looked like someone had spilt ketchup on the water. Yeah, I know, not very poetic. As it rose up it changed to a warm orange and then, a blazing yellow. By now it had become so bright, that it hurt my eyes to stare directly at it. I looked at the horizon willing it to go on forever so that we never had to battle any more monsters, or deal with crazy Earth Goddesses who would bother us and we would be free, and happy. Apparently the horizon really, really hated me.

“Is that land?” Annabeth says straining on one black spot in the huge sea.

“Yes, that’s land. We’re here,” I tell her, as I hurry to the cabins to wake up everybody.

Piper’s PoV:

The nightmare had just ended and I was in a really nice dream for once. We had defeated Gaea, we were at Olympus but there was an air of sadness that I didn’t understand. Maybe someone had died? I didn’t know because everyone was moving around so much that it was hard to see anybody. Yes someone had definitely died I could see their coffin; I was walking towards it wondering who was dead? But, just before I could get a glimpse at their face someone wakes me up.

“Piper? C’mon wake up, I think Leo’s going to die from the excitement and you really need to charm-speak him from jumping overboard. Oh, and by the way, we’re here,” the voice says and I realize it was Jason. I was kind of annoyed because I wanted to see who was going to die. I get up and brush my teeth and change into my clothes. As I’m walking out the door Leo is in the hallway shouting, “Land Ho, people, Land ho!” We all gather on the deck to stare at the land.

“I can’t believe it. We’re really here,” I say. Months of preparing all for this very moment.

“Hey, Piper please do me a favor and spare me the trouble of having to jump in after Leo to rescue him,” Percy tells me.

I laugh and say, “What are you too tired to go for a swim? I thought you liked the water!” He blushes and shares a look with Annabeth. Uh-oh.

“Ummm… Actually I am tired…” he looks at Annabeth again, “I just had a nightmare…”

“Oh…ok,” I turn to Leo now. “Hey Leo, do me a favor would you?” At this point I smile sweetly at him, and he’s practically drooling. Out of the corner of my eye I see Jason clench his fists. I give him an apologetic smile and then continue talking to Leo.

“Please don’t jump overboard. We really don’t want you to die, ok?” Here, Leo says something along the lines of, “Uh-huh…”

I turn to Jason and see the anger in his eyes. “Calm down, Jason!” I kiss his cheek to stop him from murdering Leo. By now all the boys are staring at me like I’m the most pretty thing on Earth (except for Percy, who probably knows he’ll get beaten up by Annabeth if he looks at other girls.)

“Guys!!” I shout frantically, but nothing seems to change. I look at Annabeth, Hazel and Percy. Hazel is glaring at me like I’m a piece of garbage and Annabeth and Percy are trying their best not to laugh out loud but failing miserably.

“Four words guys. SNAP. OUT. OF. IT.” They all start shaking their heads like they just woke up.

“What just happened?” Leo asks.

“Piper was gonna stop you from climbing over board and then she smiled and then…” Frank says. By this time Percy and Annabeth are rolling on the floor laughing so hard. Frank turns to Hazel and when he sees her faces he jumps up.

“What do you have to say for yourself, Frank Zhang?” Hazel shouts at him. Hazel may be the youngest one here, but sometimes she can be the scariest.

“I…ummm…need to get something from my cabin, bye!” Frank says quickly while taking fast steps towards the door.

“Oh, no you, don’t Frank!!”

I look at everyone else on the ship. Leo is asking himself stuff like “Did I just drool over Piper? Oh, man Jason’s gonna kill me now!” Percy (who’s still laughing his head off along with Annabeth) manages to say, “Best…Day…Ever!!!” between laughs. “Can’t…breathe…”

“Did you just pull an Aphrodite trick on all us guys?” Jason asks me.

“I don’t know I was just telling Leo to not jump overboard and then I smiled at you guys and all the males just melted.” I shrug my shoulders.

“So why is Percy laughing?”

“I didn’t fall for it…but you guys…drooling over Piper… so damn funny…”

“Why didn’t Percy fall for it?”

“Because, Sparky, Annabeth would kill Percy if he did that,”

“True…”

“I wouldn’t kill you…”

“Admit it, Wise girl!”

“I would’ve killed Piper…Sorry,”

“Oh no, it’s fine let’s all go and kill Piper, she’ll love it!” I say sarcastically.

“Guys, hate to burst you bubble but remember what we all came up here for? Land,” Jason calls everyone back to attention. He points to the dock. We were about to crash!!
