I heard shuffling through the darkness, then the slight creak of the door latching back into place. I tried to pry my eyes open through the immense headache I was feeling. Normally, this medicine would immobilize me so it was a surprise for me to even be able to open my eyes.

Through my squinted eyelids, bright light coated my vision, a blackish silhouette was making it's way to the other side of the room, slowly.

My eyes adjusted momentarily, the silhouette still in place, but I could see through the fog a boy carrying someone else. I couldn't see much else aside from that.

I closed my foggy eyes again and attempted to go back to sleep to loose the affects of the medicine when I felt the bed dip down.

I slid open my eyes by centimeter to look, the moment I did I recognized the figure. Nathan started calmly running his hand through my hair and I closed my eyes again, indulging in the kind gesture.

I opened my mouth and spoke a sentence, surprised at how hoarse and weak I sounded. "Who's the person you brought in?"

"Some girl from my science class. She needed help to get to the nurses office and I thought, hey two birds with one stone." Nathan replied softly, knowing of my currently heightened senses.

I closed my eyes again, feeling Nathan's hand running through my hair, then back up and down again. A faint creaking sound before Nathan spoke up again.

"How are you feeling?" He questioned.

"I feel dead," I have a hoarse laugh as I answered.

"Well feeling dead and being dead are two different things," I could practically hear his smile in his words.

Through my heightened hearing, a soft groan made it's way to my ears. Once again I squinted my eyes open to see Nathan looking back at the girl in the bed at the opposite side of the room.

After a few silent moments, he turned back to me. This time it was softer, even with my senses I could only faintly hear it, "What happened earlier?"

I opened my mouth to respond before my throat became dry and the creaking sound came back. "Here, Kohanna. This isn't your usual pill but it might help a little for the time being." It was faint, but my ears still picked up the sound.

More silence, out of the dark silence I heard a thud, liquid running. I winced at the sound, wanting to cover my ears but not able to move well. Not that covering my ears would help as the sound continued to ring in my head.

"Nathan, get over here. You'll have to hold the cup for her." The nurses voice was barely heard from the vibrating sound in my temple. I felt his hand untangle itself from my hair as I felt the bed dip back up.

More silence.

"What's wrong with her?" Nathan inquired, the sound had now started to fade away.

"I'm not quite sure what the extent of it is," The nurse spoke, "but it has something to do with her magic. Kind of like you and your sister, I think."

That caught my attention, eyes opened, not completely but they were open, I stared blankly at the ceiling.

"Thank you for helping me The Boy." The feminine voice rang in my ears for a moment before subsiding, unlike the banging of the cup. It took me a moment to register that it was Kohanna, the girl from my first period. Now that I thought about it, the nurse did call her Kohanna.

"Is the smell better?" Nathan questioned as I heard the tapping of his feet and the bed drip down again, hand in my hair.

"Yeah," I answered in my hoarse voice.
