Chapter 19: Getting closer

(Taeyeon's POV)

Where is Hiba? I can't find her anywhere. She is usually free at this time of the day. I need to talk to her about the Fundraising Festival and how she completed the arts assignment. Plus I need to go home after this. And if I can't find her, I'll just ask her over text.

I haven't seen her around in a while now. I want to catch up with her. She is a nice person and a sweet friend. Maybe I should look for Mishal or Chanyeol and ask them if they know where she is. Or, she's probably hanging out with them.

I saw Chanyeol passing by.

"Hey Chanyeol!" I waved at him.

"Hi Taeyeon." He replied in a slightly gruff tone.

Boy, he looks pissed for some reason. Better not talk too much.

"I just wanted to ask if you know where Hiba is."

"She must be around here somewhere."

He doesn't know… strange. I'll ask Mishal if I see her.

"Oh ok. Never mind."

"In fact, I think she's at the library studying."

I looked everywhere besides the library. But Hiba studying… at the library? I didn't think that was possible. Maybe she has started preparing for the exams already. Ahhh I should too.

"Ah kamsahamnida (thank you)." He nodded with a small grin, after which I went to the library.

As I opened the library door, I was cautious about making any unnecessary loud noises until I saw Hiba sitting at the corner table at the far end of the library.

"Oh there she is."

Ahh- it looks like she is studying with someone. It must be the peer tutoring thing that the Principal has started in every class. I wonder who she is studying with.

As I walked closer to her, I realized that those all too familiar brown hair, the perfect sitting posture and that handsome side pose belonged to Byun Baekhyun. And the closer I got, the surer I got.

I cannot be mistaken about him. I recognize everything.

But, one thing was definitely different, his aura. It wasn't threatening and intimidating like it usually was. It was far more discrete. It was soft, friendly and comparatively welcoming. I halted in my steps, shocked at what I saw. What I saw was something I haven't seen in a very long time: Byun Baekhyun smiling. He was faintly smiling at the last person I expected him to smile at, Hiba, his eyes fixated at her, while she was focused on writing down something.

He has never smiled to anyone here, let alone gaze at someone. And… now he's laughing. Byun. Baek. Hyun. Is. Actually. Laughing. After. All. These. Years!

It pissed me off. So much, I was almost fuming, feeling my cheeks get hotter every next second I spent looking at them.

Why on earth is he smiling at her like that? Why her? Although it's nice to see him smile but… he has never done that to anyone. Is there something going on between them? No, it couldn't. Hiba wouldn't do that. She knows how possessive and jealous I can get when it comes to Baekhyun... I don't want to walk in on them like this. Stay calm!
