"Are you starting to get it?" Derek asked Scott. The three of us were standing on top of the video store watching the police investigate the crime scene. Scott hadn't said anything to me since the other night but I was assuming that him agreeing to go with us meant he couldn't be that mad.
"I get that he's killing people. I don't get why." Scott looked up at Derek. "I mean, this isn't standard practice right. We don't go out in the middle of the night murdering people....do we?" Scott asked.
"No." I replied. It was the first thing I had said all night.
"We're predators, we don't have to be killers." Derek informed.
"Then why is he a killer?" Scott raised his voice a little.
"That's what we're gonna find out." Derek said and we walked away from the edge of the roof.

"You know I have a life." Scott sounded a little pissed as we walked into the Hale house.
"No you don't." Derek stated simply.
"Yes I do!" Scott argued. "I don't care what you say, about him... making me his pet... or..."
"Part of his pack." Derek corrected. I could see this would go on for a while so I decided to just go upstairs. I had left Eleanor's the night before, packed a few bags and walked right out the door. Haven't talked to her since. Derek agreed to let me stay with him and that we could find a more suitable place later.
"Whatever. I have homework to do. I-I have to go to a parent teacher conference tomorrow, because I'm failing chemistry." Scott explained.
"You wanna do homework? Or do you wanna....not, die?" Derek asked. Scott sighed. "You have less than a week until the full moon, you don't kill with him, he kills you."
"Okay seriously? Who made up these rules?"
"It's a right of passage, into his pack."
"You know what else is a right of passage? Graduating from high school! A-and you don't have to kill anyone to do it! Why can't you-you just find him yourself? Why can't you just sniff him out when he's a human?"
"Because his human scent could be entirely different. It has to be you. You have a connection with him, a link that you can't understand. If I can teach you to control your abilities, you can find him."
Scott paused for a minute. "So if I help you... you can stop him?" He asked softly.
"Not alone. We're stronger in numbers. A pack makes the individual more powerful."
"How am I supposed to help if I have no idea what I'm doing?!"
"Because, I'm gonna, teach you. Do you remember what happened that first night when you got shot in the arm? Right after you were hit?"
"Yeah, I changed back."
"And when you were hit by his car, same thing right? What's the common denominator?"
No one said anything for a minute then I heard Scott let out a scream. "What the hell are you doing?" He winced.
"It'll heal." Derek reassured.
"It still hurts."
"And that's what keeps you human. Pain." Scott let out a couple groans and his breathing started to slow back to usual. "Maybe you will survive." Scott didn't answer.
Moments later Derek walked into the bedroom and sat down.
"How are you planning on approaching that mess?" I asked pulling my t-shirt over my head.
