All the lights went off in the change room and I knew it was show time. Derek, Peter and I were waiting in the shower section of the boys locker room to talk to Scott. Peter had made a pretty fair argument and at least for the time being Derek and I had chosen to go along with him.
Scott slowly approached the shower and saw Derek and I standing there, Peter hidden out of sight.
"Finally! Where the hell have you been!? Do you have any idea what's been going on?!" Scott asked angrily. Derek looked over to Peter and Scott followed his gaze to see Peter walking out of the dark with a lacrosse stick in his hand.
"I really don't get lacrosse." He admitted looking very confused at the net stick contraption he was holding.
"It's you." Scott said quietly.
"When I was in high school, we played basketball." Peter continued. "Now there's a real sport."
Scott looked back at us in horror like he expected us to do something.
"Still I read somewhere that lacrosse comes from native American tribes, they played it to resolve conflict...... Do I have that right?" He asked himself. He shrugged and moved on. "I have a little conflict of my own to resolve Scott." He put the stick down. "But I need your help to do it."
"I'm not, helping you kill people." Scott replied.
"Well I don't want to kill all of them." Scott looked surprised. "Just the responsible ones. And that doesn't have to include......." Peter looked over at us for help.
"Allison." Derek said.
"You're on his side?" Scott asked us. "Are you forgetting the part where he killed your sister?!"
"It was a mistake." I said.
"You too!?" Scott sounded surprised.
"What?" I could hear the helplessness in Scott's voice.
"It happens." Derek said.
"Scott." Peter interjected. "I think you're getting the wrong impression of us. We really just wanna help you reach your full potential."
"By killing my friends." Scott said quietly.
"Sometimes the people closest to you, can be the ones holding you back the most." Peter advised.
"They're holding me back from becoming a psychotic nut job like you. I'm okay with that." Scott informed. Peter took a step towards Scott and he looked back at us for help. Nothing.
"Maybe, you could try and see things from my perspective." Peter pulled out his claws and stuck them into the back of Scott's neck. He kept them there for a minute then pulled them out, leaving Scott to fall to the ground gasping for air. Peter walked out of the shower room and I could see Derek thinking. He looked a little shocked at what Peter had done, I honestly wasn't that surprised.
Scott started to freak out on the ground, the memory Peter had shared with him clearly wasn't a very pleasant one. Derek looked conflicted with himself but he didn't move from his spot. We both just stood side by side watching as Scott had his eyes fixed on a spot in the shower but his mind somewhere completely different.
****************
Derek and I were sitting in his car brainstorming. We didn't care enough to question when Peter said he had things to do and we instead went out for smoothies.
"Are you sure this is the right side?" I asked sipping from my straw.
"I don't think it's the wrong choice." Derek replied. "I mean vendetta has purpose. I understand why he wants revenge, and I'd be lying if I said I'd never thought of it. But I mean I do question a lot of his choices."
