On a scale of nervousness from 1 to 10, the very idea of going on a date would be a 6. At least...for me that is. I'm a jumble of butterflies with a sponge for a tongue. But then the very idea that Darren Criss asked me to a date NO WAIT-is on a date with me...well that deserves a 10.
However as all good things happen, they also have little cruel followers that make matters less pleasant. You know that girl from your school? The one that bitches the hell out of you? Well that mean girl from my high school was working as the waitress...AND she saw me...Damn it! That deserves an 11!
"Oh God, she's looking at us." I whispered nervously, my eyes glued to the waitress. I pushed my hair back before shifting my gaze away.
Darren looked up from his menu with a feigned shock. "Oh no! She is? Let's run!" He grabbed his coat and made a big deal getting out of his chair.
"Shhhhh. Sit back down you goof." I instantly stood up to push him back into his seat before covering my face with the menu again.
He threw his head back for a laugh. "Haha, okay, okay. What's up buttercup?"
"That waitress over there. She's looking at us."
"Oh, the horror. Our waitress has eyes."
"No SHE'S EVIL!" Once I blurted that out, I blushed and covered my face with the menu. "Sorry. I didn't mean to yell." I said in a small voice.
Darren raised a brow. "Well why don't you like her?"
"It's because I know her." I said finally from between my teeth. The tall blond woman was carrying a few trays on her arms for another table but every chance she had, she looked over at us. "Oh how embarrassing..." I wavered at her gaze.
"...."
"....."
I looked curiously, peeking my eyes just above the top of the menu. Darren was staring heavily, the corner of his mouth twitching upwards.
"Uhhhh?"
"...you blush a lot."
My eyes went straight into my menu, shocked by his random comment. I bit my lower lip before clearing something in my throat. "Don't I?" I managed to laugh finally lowering the menu.
"Haha yeah. I hope you don't find that as snide or anything. I think it's cute." He grinned re-assuredly. I flushed again, silently cursing myself for such a weird trait. Even if it was cute, it certainly isn't convenient. "AND with that compliment, we shall order." He announced before waving the waitress over.
"Darren!" I gasped, my eyes darting to the advancing woman. "You're-"
"Is that you Minnie? Darling, I can't believe it's you. How you doing sugar?" Despite her soft accent and that sweet smile, she was a devil in disguise. Or as we call them, she's a freaking bitch.
I gulped, smiling a hesitant one. "Um, hey Janice. Long time no see. How's-"
Her eyes narrowed a bit.
"-uh the food tonight?" I corrected quickly.
"It's always fresh and delicious." she said robotically. She threw Darren a cheerful grin as she shifted her footing. I blinked the nervous look from my eyes before holding out my menu. "I'll have the um Chianti braised short ribs."
"Sure...and you?"
"I'll have the Tuscan Pork chops." Darren said, handing his menu to Janice. "And can you bring some Corte Giara please?"
