Sitting by the dinner table the same old conversation was taking place. Yuma had just snatched away a piece of food from his older brother Kou who had yet again attempted to take more than his fair share. It always stumped you how creatures who didn't need to eat could constantly argue over food, but that's just the way it goes, I guess. You did remember Yuma commenting that he enjoyed eating actual food some time back, and you assumed that's part of the reason why this dispute took place so often.
"Yuma-kun! That's mine!" Kou half-yelled in an attempt to get the food back, yet again being defeated by what appeared to be his greatest weakness; the difference in height between him and Yuma. "Huh?! You still don't know how to count? It's three per person! That's your fourth one!" Yuma retorted, seeming rather fed up with his brothers' habit of eating other people's food. "What? Really?" was all that Kou seemed able to think of as a response to that.
"Um... There are more..." Yui said in a fruitless attempt at solving the small dispute. "Hey, where's Ruki-kun?" Kou then asked, directing all your attentions to the male who had just walked in. "Weren't you going to get him?" Yuma then chimed in, obviously also wondering what happened to the eldest brother. "I did... but he said he didn't want any..." Azusa answered, shocking you all ever so slightly. He had been acting a little strange lately, but you had decided to pay it no mind.
Feeling slightly awkward about the whole ordeal, you started twirling a lock of your hair between your fingers. You made sure to do this carefully, however, as you wanted your hair to stay in place. Because of yesterday you had fang marks on the side of your neck, and you had attempted to cover it up with your hair as best you could. Not that you were all too embarrassed about it, but you didn't really want to go around flashing that at school later.
"Ruki-kun has been in a bad mood lately, don't you think" Kou then asked Yuma, snapping you out of your thoughts. "Yeah, he has" he answered plainly, and you weren't really sure how to read him at that point. "Did something... happen?" Azusa then asked, bringing up the question most of you were wondering about. Nobody had an answer, so everyone stayed quiet, and then remained quiet throughout the remainder of the meal.
After you had finished eating, you essentially made v-line for the garden, as you didn't want to be in that room filled with a tense atmosphere. Once you'd made it there it didn't take long for Yuma to join you. You stood on the tiny porch, looking out over the garden when he came up behind you and wrapped his arms around your waist. As a sign that you did not oppose to this action you leaned back into his chest slightly. Soon enough you could feel his forehead being placed against the crook of your neck. "You doing alright? You seemed really uncomfortable earlier" he said, having sensed your awkwardness. "I'm fine, just worried about him like everyone else" you said, placing your hands on top of his, which were resting on your sides.
"That's not what I mean" he said before quickly turning you around to face him. He then moved one hand to your neck, pushing the hairs away to reveal the bite marks. "I was going to apologize for this, I noticed you were trying to hide it" he said, obvious sadness detectable in his eyes. "It's not like that, you don't need to apologize. I just thought it'd be a bother if people saw it, I'd rather avoid dramas" you explained, a somewhat sad smile covering your lips as you did.
Without warning, he then pulled you into a proper hug, head yet again resting in the crook of your neck. "Nevertheless, I'm sorry" he whispered in your ear, sending shivers down your spine, in a good way. You didn't answer, mostly because you didn't know what to say. So, instead of speaking, you simply wrapped your arms around his torso, returning the hug.
"Am I interrupting something?~" Kou's voice cut through the silence, making you and Yuma pull apart from the embrace. "What do you want, Kou?" Yuma asked, ignoring his previous comment completely. "We were planning to go see if we could make Ruki tell us what's up, but if you guys'd rather stay here doing what you were doing, I won't stop you~" he then explained somewhat teasingly toward the two of you. Yuma grunted with annoyance before casually taking ahold of your hand and started leading you toward the door. "Are you coming or not?" Yuma then asked, growing irritated with his brother, even though he technically hadn't done much to deserve the irritation, as far as you were aware.
As you were walking toward his room, with Azusa having joined soon after you went indoors, a thud was soon heard from another part of the mansion. Almost instantly, you had switched locations, and were all stood outside a room. You didn't question the sudden change of location too much as you knew that vampires could teleport, and that Yuma, who was still holding your hand, had probably brought you along.
The atmosphere in this part of the mansion was completely different from what you were used to from this place. It was dark, and the walls were made of stone, which caused it to be colder than the other parts of the house. It almost felt like a dungeon, or maybe a prison. In the room right in front of you stood Ruki with an unconscious Yui lying in front of his feet. From where you were stood you could only see his back, but he soon turned around. He walked out of the room quickly before closing the door behind him and breathing heavily while looking down at his hand.
"Ruki-kun... What's with you all of a sudden?" Kou then asked, making the male aware of your presence. "We've been too lenient. This is how livestock should be treated. From now on, we demand even more of her blood. In order to be Adam" he explained as he walked towards you all, while you could feel Yuma's arm wrapping around you protectively.
"You can relax, Yuma. I have no interest in locking her up. That being said, you are no longer allowed to follow us to school, as it is unnecessarily risky" he said before stopping in his tracks right in front of you. "You are not to go outside this mansion. If you decide to leave, there'll be no coming back, do you understand?" he then finished sternly, to which you only nodded as a response. When he saw that, he didn't say anything, he just nodded slightly to himself before walking away from there.
Not much to do about the situation, you'd simply have to cope with not leaving their mansion for the time being, seeing as you had nowhere else to go and no intentions to live on the streets again.
Author's note! Well, I can't really even remember when I last updated this story, and I'm sorry. What I do know is that this story has gotten really popular for one of my books since then, and I'm actually quite surprized this one got as popular as it did. Nontheless, I'm thankfull for every single one of my readers! Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this chapter and that you're looking forward to the next one! //Yours truly, Handsomesquid :3
