I followed the ambulance
To the nearby hospital
Hoping
And praying
That maybe she had a chance.
Michael was still breathing
And moving
And even speaking
And I wondered
In that very moment
Why life was so unfair.
Why was he perfectly fine
While Lottie was dying?
We pulled up to the hospital
A blur of blue and red lights
And they finally tore
Lottie and I apart.
I took one last look
At her beautiful face
And her innocent eyes
That were shut tight.
"I love you,"
I whispered softly
As they wheeled her away.
"And I promise
That every inch of my body
Loves you as well.
And that's not a lie."
