I Hate(d) You

"You do realize that you're standing on my foot, right?" I said in annoyance towards my cousin's best friend, a snotty rich kid named Austin. He had his foot on mine for a good five minutes now and I'm pretty sure I've lost feeling in them.
"Sorry, didn't see you there." He said sarcastically, throwing in a sulky grin as he walked away.
I rolled my eyes and grabbed my cousin's arm, pulling him to the side of the pool we were by at our grandparent's vacation house. It was a nice summer break, until Austin decided to show up. I don't care who invited him, he needs to leave.
"Does he seriously have to be here?" I yelled in a whisper at my cousin, crossing my arms at him.
"Do you have a problem with him being here?" Alex asked.
"Clearly. Can't you see that we hate each other?"
"What makes you think Austin hates you?" Alex replied in a shocked tone, as if he thought I already knew.
"Did you not see what happened a few minutes ago..." I said through half gritted teeth, anger growing for my cousin too. I never really fought with Alex, but we would get a little angry at each other once in a while.
"It's not my fault Austin doesn't like you." He defended himself, "Why don't you just ask him to be friends."
"No, that'd make me look weak." I protested.
"Well, I'm sure he'll come around." Alex concluded our conversation by walking away, leaving me alone in the blazing sun.
Scoffing, I stomped back into the house and straight into the kitchen. Opening the cooler, I grabbed a water bottle and vigorously uncapped it, drinking the water at an unusual pace.
"Thirsty, are you?" My grandma spoke, making me realize that she had been in the room the whole time. I calmed myself down a little and walked over to the dining table, where she was sitting and joined her. "Everything alright?" She asked in the kindest voice ever.
"Just a little tension.. between this guy and I." I replied simply.
"Tell me about this guy." She answered, seeming like she really wanted to know about my love life.
I thought about it for a minute. Did I really know Austin? I mean, we've never had a proper conversation before. I don't even know why we hate each other so much. I guess it was just an unintended meeting.
"He's..." I trailed off. I didn't really have an explanation or description as to who he was. He was, to me, a kid who hates me the same way I hate him. It's not like we had any history. It was plainly because of a bad first impression.
"You don't know much about this boy do you?" Grandma replied.
"Not really."
"Then why don't you go learn something about him. Get to know him. You'll never know if you don't like someone if you haven't met them." She spoke wisdom.
I paused for a second, the slightest grin on my face. "Maybe I will." I turned to look at Grandma, seeing she had a smile on her face as well. "I love you."
"I love you too Brianna. Now go. Find that boy of yours." She lightly pushed me, causing me to giggle in response.
It felt awkward, looking around the house for Austin. It would definitely be unusual for him to find me actually wanting a normal conversation with him. We've just never talked as 'friends' before. I wonder what he'll think of me. What he actually thinks of me, that is, as a person.
