a few days later, jiah saw hwanwoong taking out some books at his locker while she was passing by. she looked at the time and shrugged, realising that she had time to spare before class.
she stood behind the open locker door and waited. hwanwoong closed the door and shrieked when he saw her waiting there.
"what is your problem?" he said, a hand on his chest to calm his heart.
"hi woongie!" jiah said, remembering how hwanwoong didn't like that nickname.
"hello jiah." he greeted, his face void of expression not saying anything about the nickname.
"what are you doing?" jiah asked, not knowing why she even stopped to talk to him.
"now? nothing. uh jiah, i had something to ask you." hwanwoong said suddenly.
"sure, what is it?" jiah searched hwanwoong's face, which was still expressionless.
"you're a girl right. so i guess i can ask you. how to i tell a girl i like her?" he asked, his face looking slightly concerned.
"uh that's not a question i was expecting." jiah said. staring at him in confusion.
"yes, you're right. f-forget i asked. your advice would mean nothing to me anyway." hwanwoong said, giving her a look and walking away.
he left jiah staring after him, wondering what in the world had just happened. she considered it for a moment and ran after him.
"wait stop. you don't want the advice?" she said, grabbing onto his arm and pulling him to a stop.
"okay, what's your great advice?" hwanwoong asked, shaking her hand from his arm.
"just be honest. some people like extravagant confessions but personally, i like it when the person is honest." she shrugged. "oh, and why? do you like someone?"
her smirk grew when she saw hwanwoong's cheeks begin to go red.
"w-what. no. i mean- yes. but you don't know her. so don't go around telling people. forget this conversation happened. bye." hwanwoong muttered before turning around, this time leaving for real.
"did the couple have their first fight?"
jiah whirled around to see taedong walking up to her, hands on his bagstraps.
"first fight? when are we not fighting?" jiah laughed.
"so you don't deny being a couple." taedong pointed out, a grin on his face.
"shut up. also, you and eunhye are like peas in a pod, aren't you?" jiah asked, turning the question back to him.
a strange look crossed taedong's face but he smiled at her.
"we're neighbours. anyway, it's my birthday next week and i've already asked the rest of them to come but i couldn't catch you earlier so you want to come have dinner then?" he asked.
"sure, i'm always up for cake. and shipping you and eunhye." jiah said, returning his smile.
"right, i'll see you tomorrow then." taedong held up a hand and waved as he walked away.
