the next day, jiah was back in school like she said she would be. at lunch, eunhye and seulin led her to the table where daniel and taedong were sitting at.
"hey, hwanwoong really missed you in the past two days." taedong teased his friend who had yet to arrive at the table.
"i did not." hwanwoong said, frowning as he put his tray down at the table.
"are you that afraid you're gonna fall in love with me?" jiah said scoffing. taedong "ooh-ed" softly.
"ew- s-shut up, im trying to eat." hwanwoong stammered and looked down at his food.
"taedong, don't forget that i need a lift home later." eunhye said, causing seulin and jiah to nudge each other with knowing grins.
jiah started to eat when she looked at daniel and noticed that he was eating three bowls of rice. then she looked at jiah who was staring at him and chuckled to herself.
a while later, eunhye, seulin and daniel had gotten up to get something to drink. this left jiah and hwanwoong eating while taedong was focused on his phone.
jiah stared at hwanwoong and narrowed her eyes at him in suspicion, remembering that he had asked for her number but hadn't done anything with it.
"what are you looking at?" hwanwoong said, looking up at her because he could feel her looking at him.
"why'd you ask for my number?" jiah said, not hesitating with what she wanted to ask.
a strange look crossed hwanwoong's face but it left almost as quickly as it came.
"what are you talking about? i didn't even ask for your number, stupid." hwanwoong huffed and rolled his eyes.
"what- yes you did. you asked me yesterday, remember?" taedong looked up but quickly returned his attention back to his face when he saw the outraged look on hwanwoong's face.
"that was not something i asked you to tell anyone else." hwanwoong gritted his teeth and shot a glare at both taedong and jiah before standing up with his tray, leaving the table.
jiah and taedong exchanged a glance which ended in both of them laughing at what had just happened.

that evening, jiah was catching up on her homework when her phone buzzed unceasingly on the table next to the opened book in front of her. a call.
she haphazardly balanced the phone between her cheek and shoulder, eyes still trained on the book before her.
"hello?" she said.
"uh hey, its uh hwanwoong."
the moment she heard his voice over the phone, she let go of the pen in her hand and sat up straighter.
"hwanwoong? so you finally made use of my phone number huh?" jiah said, a smirk evident on her lips.
"whatever. anyway i was running an errand and im in your neighbourhood. i was wondering if you wanted to get dinner with me?" hwanwoong asked, bustling his way through the sentence.
"an errand? sure, i guess. and you can tell me all about that errand you had to run." jiah said, pushing her book away from her and standing up.
"very funny. im outside your house already." hwanwoong cleared his throat and said.
jiah eyed the door and headed over to open it. there stood hwanwoong, phone in hand pressed to his ear. they exchanged small smiles until hwanwoong's smile dissapeared.
"aren't we going? hurry up and get your things." he lightly shoved jiah back into the house, watching as she grumbled to herself and took her bag.
without hwanwoong himself knowing, a tiny smile had made its way back onto his face.
