Here's the thing...
Because of novels, many girls get WRONG ideas about romantic relationships.
Yeah, there are several relationships in novels that are to die for. *cough*
But they're too unrealistic. Google 'why book romances are unrealistic' and you'll find several articles that tell you exactly why they're unrealistic and why they are even toxic.
Books can make you think, 'Well, I could have a relationship like that someday...'
No matter how sweet and gentlemanly or however nice your boyfriend can be, they'll never be just like Augustus Waters, Edward Cullen (*barfs*), or nearly any other male lead you can read about.
My advice:
Take a look at healthy real-life relationships that do work, and that have worked. Talk to couples who've been married for several years. Ask them about their ups and downs in their relationship. Ask them about times they hit rock-bottom and how they were able to pick themselves up. Ask them about the best times they had during their relationship.
Once you start focusing on how real couples have made it work, you'll see how difficult and wonderful and messy and fantastic marriage and love can really be.
