Alarm. Horrible thing. It cut you from your sweetest dreams every morning. Especially because it wakes you up because you have to go to school. Catherine told me not to be late so I quickly brushed my teeth and wore some random clothes. I rushed down to see my dad and Oscar were having breakfast.
"Good morning. Again no early work, dad?", I said walking to them.
"I'm going in...", dad looked on his watch,"...half an hour. When you are going?". He continued to eat his cereals.
"In a few minutes.", I said grabbing a toast, "Hey, Oscar. I won't be home today. I have something after school."
"What is that?", dad said looking at me.
"Nothing, nothing. I have to go. Bye. Love you.", I said running out of house. Last thing that I needed was to explain my dad where I was going.
"This is new. Right on a time.", Cat said looking at her watch. For some reason, everyone had watch except me and everyone cared about time.
"I would do anything just to avoid dad's questions. Let's go."
Again, we got to school very quickly. But this time we saw familiar faces in the crowd. Those were Austin and Frankie. When they saw us they waved at us. We smiled and waved as well. Our first lesson was math. We sat together but we didn't expect girls who sat in front of us.
"Hey.", they said.
They are July and Sally. We are friends with them but not that good like we used to be. We used to be squad: me, Cat, July, Sally, Cassy and one more girl named Zaria but we separated and left on different sides. Me and Cat on one side, July, Sally and Zaria on other and Cassy was alone because she is mean. July and Sally are good but I'm not person who is constantly talking about boys, make up and clothes.
"Hey, guys. How are you?", Cat said.
"We're good.", Sally said sitting in front of me and smirking.
"But we think you are even better.", July said sitting in front of Cat and smirking as well.
"What?", I said. What were they talking about?
"We saw how Frankie Payton waved at you two.", July said. She was obviously excited to hear our story about Frankie.
"So what? We met him yesterday.", Cat said.
"But he is a ballplayer and a cute guy. Lot of girls want to be noticed by him.", Sally said. Her excitement wasn't less than July's.
"Really? I haven't met any girl who is talking about him.", I said. But I had to admit myself that he is really cute. Jack as well.
"Those girls exist just ...", Sally wanted to say but July grabbed her to turn away because teacher came in. Cat and I just looked at each other. How do they see everything? Those girls really needed their own lives.
I couldn't wait for end. And when it came, Cat and I went quickly to meet with the boys. It was our first time in that place and we were hoping we wouldn't get lost. I looked around myself to see sign where we needed to go. We entered and we saw big place for playing baseball.
"Hi.", I said when we saw two guys talking.
"Hey.", Jack and Austin said smiling.
"Great to see you here. Hope you will like it.", Austin said. He and Jack were wearing same black shirts and same caps so I guessed those were parts of their equipment.
"This is one of my wishes. I'm sure I will like it.", I said with smile.
"Isn't supposed to be three of you?", Cat said.
"Yes. But some people read books.", we heard voice behind us. We turned around to see Frankie sitting on the chair with his legs on a desk. He was reading a book without covers.
"What are you reading?", I asked coming closer to him.
" "Against the wind" Angeles Caso.", he replied not looking at me.
I smiled to myself. That was my territory.
"Sad life story of a girl named Sao? Yes, I've read it."
"You have?", he said looking up with surprise.
"Yes. My biggest loves are books and music. I'm expert in it.", I said with proud smile. It was interesting to see how Frankie looked at me. Apparently he didn't consider me as a smart person until then. I continued to smile. His surprised face turned into smile as well.
"I'm impressed. Finally someone with same tastes in books like me."
"Okay, book lovers, let's play.", Jack called us.
I wanted to talk with Frankie a little more but Cat was ready so I followed her. Cat and I wore helmets and they brought us in area with net on the walls. First Jack and Austin showed us how to hold equipment. Jack was one with the bat and Austin with the glove.
"The thing is in the hit. Good hit and point is yours. C'mon, Austin.", Jack said, ready to hit the ball. Austin threw a ball and Jack hit it really high. Cat's and mine eyes were following the ball until it fell on the floor.
"That is how you need to do it. Your turn to try. Come here, Catherine."
Cat looked confused and I pushed her to go ahead. She stood on Jack's place and held the bat. Jack stood behind her and held her arms to show her how to swing the bat. Her face was so confused and funny and I barely held my laugh. She was blushing all the time while he was showing her hit.
"Jack, you really know how to impress a girl.", Frankie said smirking.
"Shut up.", Jack said laughing.
"May I show my potential in this sport? It is your turn, Ivy?"
"Yes.", I said and stood on place instead of Cat. Frankie showed me the same thing Jack showed Cat. It was strange feeling and Frankie's breath on my neck was really ticklish. One time I accidentally looked him straight to his eyes and he smiled and I blushed. After 2 hours of playing, we were exhausted. At least, we girls were.
"Can't wait to see my love.", I said carrying my bag with last pieces of my strength. Boys decided to accompany us home.
"You have a boyfriend?", Frankie asked.
"Yes. I'm in seriously relationship with my bed.", I said sarcastically. They all started laughing. That is my favourite habit. Sarcasm is something that I couldn't find boring.
"I understand you. I can't wait to get to my bed too.", Jack said.
"Here we are. This is my house. And Catherine's is over there.", I said. We weren't too close because I still didn't want my dad to see them. He is overprotective and I can't listen to his questions.
"Do you have any nickname? Catherine is too long.", Frankie said looking at Cat.
"Yes. Cat. Is Frankie nickname as well?"
"Yes. Short form of Franklin Junior."
"Okay Franklin Junior, Jack and Austin. We have to go now. It was really great time and I hope we will do it again. For seven days maybe.", I said rubbing my back. It really hurt. Position with the bat wasn't easy at all.
"Seven days?" Next training is on Friday. Tomorrow we have our training but yours is day after.", Austin said. How he had strength for that?
"No way. I won't move tomorrow.", Cat said holding her tights.
"Yes, you will. You are a 'cat'. You have 9 lives.", Frankie said teasing her. She gave him dark glare. "Fine ladies, see you in school."
"See you.", we replied.Oh my God. There is no better feeling than the feel of warmth of your bed. That was an exhausting day. I wanted to put my headphones but I fell asleep before that.
I would sleep even more that my phone didn't ring. I couldn't open my eyes so I just grabbed my phone from night table.
"Yes..."
"I'm guessing I woke you up?", I heard Cat's voice.
"Good guess. What's up?", I said in sleepy voice and still don't opening my eyes. I didn't want to break sweet dream even though it was already ruined.
"My whole body is in pain. What about you?"
"Same. I realize that you need a lot of strength if you want to be a ballplayer."
"Yes. And what do you think about boys?"
"They are cool. First male friends who are normal.", I said but with open eyes now.
"Yes. I like them too.", she said but she was hesitating.
"I can say that THEY are real reason why you phoned me.", I said laughing.
"Shut up.", she said laughing as well.
We talked for an hour I think. Everything new we always discuss together and this was definitely something new. Something new and exciting.
