CHAPTER 6

"Uhg. School." Arita said to herself.

It was Monday morning and Arita wasn't ready for the weekend to be over.

Saturday evening Arita's dad got home later than expected, and when he did, she and Brookie were already asleep. So Arita decided to show the book to her father the next day, but some how she managed to wake up Monday morning, still having not shown her after the book.

Arita rolled out of bed, and shook Brookie awake.

"Common you big lug, get up." She moaned half asleep.

"Rita, leave me be." Brookie rolled over and began to quietly snoar.

"Fine." Arita huffed. She slid on her slippers and walked down the long stairs.

"Morning dad." Arita yawned to her father as he sat at the table and read the daily news.

"Morning honey. Hey, do you know if we have any coffee?" He asked.

Arita giggled. "I'm pretty sure your step-son-of-pig, Jacob, drank it all." She laughed.

"Geeze." Her father chuckled.

Arita poured herself a cup of raspberry tea and sat next to her dad. There was no real conversation until Jacob came down from his slumber, then Arita couldn't help but laugh. She almost spit out her tea at the site of his horrible bed-head and exhausted eyes.

"Wow." she chuckled, "quite the new look."

"Shut up, Ar. I might wake up like this, but I can fix it. You, cant." he winked at her, and Arita's giggles turned to a scowl. She heard her dad holding back his laugh.

"You're such a brat." She stated.

"I may be a brat, but at least I'm a cute brat." Jacob winked, grabbed his orange juice, and ran upstairs before Arita could hurt him verbally or physically.

"Dad, I know you're smirking." Arita said, not glancing at her father.

"Sorry honey." he chuckled, got up and kissed Arita on the forehead before leaving the kitchen with his news paper.

"Alright! All who want a ride to school need to hop in the truck in twenty seconds or you can walk!" Michael yelled through the large house.

"Me and Brookie will be down in a minute!" Arita yelled

"Me too!" Jacob added.

Within a few seconds, Jacob, Arita and Brookie had reached the front door to where Michael stood.

"Good. Follow me little ducklings." Michael opened the door, and marched out to the black truck parked outside.

Jacob marched happily behind Michael, while Arita and Brookie strolled side-by-side with linked arms, laughing at their ridiculous walk.

Jacob and Michael reached that car, placing themselves in the front, and Arita plopped in the back with Brookie. The engine roared as Michael turned the keys, then they took off.

Silence filled the car for about half a minute, then Jacob couldn't resist the radio to which he happily turned on and blared a RedHound song. The loudest bad Arita had ever heard was blaring in the truck. Jacob, Michael and surpriseingly, Brookie, were happy to jam along.

As they drove to school, Arita stared out the window and watched the kids that walked to school. Not much was happening, and most of the kids she saw looked quite unhappy.
