CHAPTER 8
The sound of the sea had always soothed Arita. When the waves crashed on the shore and you could smell the sweet salt. It also made a lovely view, watching the sun rise above the ocean, creating a mix of pinks and oranges, changing the color of the crystal blue water.
If only nightmares stayed in bed. Maybe the water wouldn't be so mysterious.
Arita sat a rock with her feet dug in the cold sand. The sun hadn't risen yet, but the sky was lighting up.
She watched as white foam crashed upon the sand, then was pulled back out to sea. It was like Arita's memories. You think you're finally free from a nightmare in the ocean, but It pulls you right back in.
Arita stood up from the rock, and walk towards the water, it chilled her bare feet. A wind swept through, creating goose bumps on her arms, and making her close her soft sweater.
She watched the waters, waiting for something to happen, that she knew never would.
But, it did.
In the faint morning light, Arita saw a woman appear from the water.
"Arita." the voice sang in a soft tone.
Her hand was outstretched. The woman was only fifteen feet away.
"Mom?" somehow Arita felt it was her mother, and she watched the woman nod.
Tears fell from Arita's eyes. She dropped her shoes on the sand and ran to her mothers embrace. The hug Arita had longed for was right here, right now.
"Oh mom!" Arita looked into her mothers eyes, but those were not her mothers eyes.
"All the secrets in the world." the woman said in a whisper. Her emerald eyes sparkled with a taunting laughter.
"No. No!" Arita shook her head in disbelief, the woman grabbed Arita's wrist, then broiling anger struck Arita.
"You! You killed my mother! Bring her back!" She cried and tried to kick the woman, but she slipped.
She felt the strong cold grip of the woman still holding her wrist.
The icy water surrounded Arita. It was dark, so dark. Oh just a hint of light and Arita would know everything was alright.
But she didn't get a light.
Arita started to swim up, but hand pushed her head further under.
'No!' Arita screamed in her mind.
Farther and farther Arita was pushed, and somehow, her struggling did nothing. The woman was winning. Arita was going to die.
Arita's lungs burned for the sensation of oxygen.
She clawed at the woman, but hit nothing.
Then a pair of eyes dipped into the water, right in front of Arita.
"Die." they sang.
Arita thought her eyes were closed, but the woman's eyes were as clear as day. Glowing in the pitch black surroundings. To Arita, the woman's eyes reminded her of a cat's. The pupils cut to just a slit in the middle of a green wonder.
It made Arita terrified, but stuck in an endless trance.
"Die." The eyes taunted. "Die."
