"Evie, h-h-hi. W-w-wh-what are you doing?" Carlos stuttered.
"You didn't think I'd notice you leaving the castle? I wasn't even sleeping," said Evie.
"I just needed to get away, that's all," said Carlos. "Jay wouldn't stop snoring."
"Okay, but why here?" asked Evie. "Your mom could've seen you."
"She wouldn't. She's usually at the spa at this time of the month," said Carlos.
"So, why come here?" asked Evie again.
"It's my happy place, well, here on the Isle, at least," said Carlos.
"No, it's more than that," said Evie, sensing that Carlos is leaving something out.
Carlos turns away and looks at his black box again. Evie walks closer towards him and puts a hand on his shoulder, making him look back at her.
"You know you can tell me anything, right?" said Evie.
"It's just being back here and all," said Carlos. "It's bringing back so many memories."
"I know the feeling," said Evie. "But you shouldn't let the past spook you. It's the past. Weren't the one who sang the words, the past is past?"
"I know," said Carlos, feeling ashamed for his current behavior. "But this isn't about all the bad things that happened. It's something else."
"What is it?" asked Evie.
Carlos raised his shoulders and hanged his head, nervous to speak the answer. Evie puts her hand on his cheek and turns his face so he can face her. The look on her face tells him that he can trust her with whatever he has to say.
"You and me," said Carlos.
"M-Me and you?" asked Evie, surprised.
"You remember the night I brought you here?" asked Carlos, looking up at the hole in the roof, which was caused by his black box many months ago.
"How can I forget? Mal locked me in a closet full of bear traps, but you saved me," said Evie. "I never even thanked you for that."
"Well, I don't blame you. Showing gratitude was forbidden on the Isle, after all," said Carlos.
"So, what's that night go to do with why you're here?" asked Evie.
"Believe it or not, that was the best day of my life, and after living in Auradon for six months, that's saying something," said Carlos. "All my life, I've been pushed around and beat up by my own mother and almost all the villain kids. Then something extraordinary happened. I met you."
"I think I know what you're saying," said Evie.
"You do?" asked Carlos.
"Making a friend after so many years of loneliness, I get the feeling," said Evie.
"If anyone's been truly lonely, it's you," said Carlos. "Ten years of banishment with only your mother for company, I can't even imagine how it feels."
Evie takes hold of Carlos' hand in both her own, looking at him with her sparkling eyes.
"Same difference," said Evie.
"I just can't help but wonder what would've happened if we never met," said Carlos. "Sometimes, I can't even believe you let yourself get close to me."
Evie laughed a little.
"Why wouldn't I?" said Evie. "Carlos, you may have been a nerdy, awkward scaredy-dog back then, but I chose to look past that."
"And what did you see?" asked Carlos.
"A lonely boy who needed a friend to feel alive," said Evie. "Also, I thought you were cute."
Carlos started blushing at the compliment.
"R-R-Really?" asked Carlos.
"Like a little puppy," said Evie, petting Carlos like a dog.
"Okay, enough," said Carlos, swatting Evie's hand off his hair.
Evie cups Carlos' face in her hand again as she smiles at him.
"You shouldn't worry about the what ifs," she said. "I met you, I thought you needed a friend, so I stayed by your side."
"It just felt so surreal," said Carlos. "Of all the people who would be my friend, it's you."
"Hard to believe?" asked Evie.
"Evie, c'mon, you remembered how I was before Auradon," said Carlos. "I was weak, pathetic, a miserable excuse for a villain kid. You, you're rotten, you're manipulative, a princess among villain kids. Strong, sweetly villainous..."
All of a sudden, Evie leaned closer, causing Carlos to blush and juggle his words uncontrollably.
"... kind, beautiful, gorgeous, the apple of all eyes..." He kept going on while he loses himself staring at his friend's beautiful eyes.
Evie giggled. While she was confused why Carlos was behaving like this, she admired the compliments, synonyms and all. It just made her want to come closer.
"You really think so?" asked Evie.
"More than think. I believe you are," said Carlos dreamily.
Evie caresses his cheek as she leans even closer, looking at him with the same dreamy look he was giving her.
"You've truly gotten braver," said Evie. "So bold, so cute, such a girl's magnet."
"You're thinking of Jay, not me," said Carlos.
"Oh, I believe I'm thinking of the right person," said Evie.
"Is it hot in here or is it just me?" asked Carlos, feeling his cheeks burning hotter every second. "Or maybe it's just you?"
Evie giggled again. If she didn't know any better, Carlos sounded like he was flirting with her.
"Maybe it's just you," said Evie in a seemingly flirtatious manner.
"No, I'm pretty sure it's you," said Carlos.
For reasons unknown, the two crashed their lips into each other. They kissed fiercely, showing plenty of fire and passion. Evie holds Carlos' face with both her hands, pulling him closer. Carlos pulls her closer by embracing her.
The kiss was so fierce that Evie's leg popped.
Do you know what I mean by "leg pop"? If you don't, you can either look it up or watch Princess Diaries.
