WARNING: Beginning of this chapter gets a little too... hot.

Ten minutes have passed and Evie and Carlos are still kissing, only it was turning into something more. Evie starts to unzip Carlos' jacket. Carlos helped her getting it off her before doing same with her jacket. Evie sneakily slips her hand under Carlos' shirt, causing the boy's face to heat up further. Carlos runs his hand down Evie's left arm, giving Evie an extra rush that causes her to add more intensity to the kiss.

The kiss got so intense that Evie ends up pushing Carlos down until he falls on his back.

The two started laughing at what just happened. They continued to kiss, until Evie gasps and gets up, walking away from Carlos.

"What am I doing?" She whispered. "What am I doing? I have a boyfriend back in Auradon. What am I doing?"

"Whoa, Evie, calm down," said Carlos, putting a hand on her shoulder.

"What am I doing?!" Evie shouted, looking at Carlos with a panicked look on her face. "I mean, what just happened?"

"I... I... I don't know," said Carlos.

"Why did it happen?" asked Evie.

"I don't know, either," said Carlos.

Evie started pacing back and forth, still panicking. Carlos once saw Mal behaving like this under pressure of being royally perfect.

"This is not good," said Evie, and then repeats the same words over and over again.

"Easy. Calm down," Carlos pleaded.

"I can't calm down," said Evie. "I just cheated on my boyfriend with someone I consider a brother. What is happening here?"

"I don't know, but I do know that a kiss like that has to mean something," said Carlos.

"Are you implying what I think you're implying?" asked Evie.

"First the whole feeling lonely thing, and now this? Are you a mind reader or something?" Carlos replied.

"If I am, then I know that you know what I'm implying you're implying," said Evie.

"It's weird, isn't it?" asked Carlos. "It feels like we're..."

"Connected," they said at the same time.

Carlos raises his hand. Evie raises her at nearly the exact same time. Carlos puts his hand on his chest. Evie did the same a millisecond after.

"Weird," they said together.

"Okay, that's enough."

"Stop that!"

"That's just creepy."

"Quit it!"

They both then simultaneously punch each other in the shoulder, which creeps them out again.

"Why is this happening to us?" asked Carlos.

"I think we both already know the answer," said Evie. "Like you said, that kiss, it means something."

"You know what I'm implying and I know what you're implying I'm implying, and so on and so forth," said Carlos.

"It's either that, or the Isle is driving us crazy," said Evie.

Carlos puts his hand on Evie's cheek, making sure she keeps on looking at him. Evie puts her hand over his, staring into his eyes, trying to understand what she is feeling in order to know if the answer she and Carlos have for the big question is true.

"Kiss me," said Evie.

"What?" asked Carlos.

"I want to know if it does mean something," said Evie.

"But what about Doug?" asked Carlos.

"Doug's not here," said Evie. "It's just the two of us."

"Are you sure you want to do this again?" asked Carlos.

"I'm sure," said Evie.

Carlos and Evie slowly leaned closer until their lips met again. Unlike the last one, the kiss was soft and tender. They weren't seeking thrill this time. They were simply trying to understand the meaning of what had occurred recently.

After the kiss, they stared at each other with a combination of confusion, delight, and uncertainty.

"Well, what do you feel?" asked Carlos.

"I feel like we're right about this," said Evie.

"Is it still not a good thing?" asked Carlos.

"I really can't be sure," said Evie. "On the one hand, I'm going behind my boyfriend's back. On the other, I'm discovering something new I can't fully comprehend and yet, I feel more alive than ever before."

The two looked into each other's eyes for a long time. They know what is happening, but don't understand why it's happening.

"I think we should go," said Evie. "Mal will be back soon and Jay is not going to be napping forever."

"We're still gonna talk about this, right?" asked Carlos.

"When the time is right," said Evie.

Evie and Carlos exit the tree house and make their way back to Bargain Castle.

Just to let you know, I'm being vague on purpose. You may know what is happening, but that doesn't mean I can't have some fun about being a little cryptic. I feel like it adds something a little different, escaping the cliche dialogue in romantic stories.
