A nurse was shaking me awake.
"Sweetheart, it's time to get up. I'm going to inject you with the serum needed for the test and help you make your way down to the testing lab." As she finished, she stuck me with a needle in the arm. In my groggy state, I saw she didn't have scrubs on, only a skimpy nurse Halloween costume. Did nurses still wear that?
She brought me towards a wheelchair and strapped me in. Talking to herself, she said the task was done and to meet her in the alley behind the hospital. She rolled me into an elevator and pressed home floor. She hesitated behind a pole until the receptionists were looking at thier computers or paitents. Then she made a mad dash to an unmarked door and opened it. No alarms sounded as she rolled me to a van and loaded me into back. I passed out shortly.
Waking up, my eyes have never felt heavier. Not even the time my ex best friend Kristy talked me into a party where I got shit faced drunk. The van pulled into an old building. I recognized the building, it was the old townhall before the fire. We were in Tennesee.
As I woke up, I saw my dad, the nurse(who I recognized as my older college neighbor Sara), and 6 men all dressed in jeans and t shirts. "What's going on" I barely managed to get out.
"Your mother gave you up for adoption to that cooky uncle of yours" my dad stated in a harsh tone.
"Hey, don't talk about Finch like that!" I retorted sassily.
"Shut up bitch" dad said, pointing a gun at me. "Now your mother is dead and you will be joining her soon. Now stay still." I did out of fear. Damn, my fear of my father.
He pulled the trigger and I immediatley dodged it. It hit Sara in the neck, she fell to the ground the light leaving her eyes quickly as she bled. "You bitch!" dad exclaimed. "Now stay stil this time." He had his finger on the trigger when bullets started spraying him from behind. He crumpled to the ground, his movements slowly stopping. "Dad!" I yelled, trying to break free from the straps Sara locked me in. The other six men were hit in the knees or shins. Someone unbound me and I turned around, it was Finch. I saw Reese and Shaw walking around the strange men(I'm guessing those were my dad's best men). They had thier guns drawn in case tryed to make a move.
I got up slowly from the chair, wobbly from the serum. "The hospital reported you missing so I tracked you here." Finch pulled me into a tight hug. I squeezed back hard.
"I'm not letting go of you."
"Alright, the cops are on their way. I suggest leaving" Reese said. I pulled away from Finch and hugged him.
"Thank you Reese and Shaw for saving me again." Shaw chuckled.
We walked out the side door as police came in. Shaw bought me a pair of leggings, a tank top and a sweatshirt. We got on a plane and headed back to New York. Finch hailed a cab for him and I, Reese and Shaw were going home to rest. We sat in silence until he dropped us off three blocks away from the library. Finch paid the cabbie and we got out.
He unlocked the library and I went straight to bed. I must have been screaming because Finch was grabbing my shoulders, trying to shake me awake. "What-t-t?" I asked.
"You were sceaming about your dad."
"Oh" I said, looking down. Finch put his arm around my shoulder.
"You know I can never replace your father, I won't even try to. But I will be the best uncle-father I can be." Finch squeezed my arm gingerly. "You know I love you, Kylie."
"I love you too uncle Finch."
"Now go to bed. It's late" he pointed at my alarm clock. it read 4:32 am.
"Okay, good night Finch." He kissed my forehead tenderly as I laid back down. I fell asleep without any nightmares or restlessness.
