Phoenix is grateful for this moment with Malia. Not because he loves her or wants her back, but because now he doesn't feel so alone. Now he knows he has more than just Ellie. This conversation, Malia simply just deciding to sit down and talk with him like this, even Scott before – neither of them will ever truly know just how much it means to him.
But the moment of gratitude doesn't last long. A second later, Stiles bursts through the doo sweaty and all red as he stares at them with horror on his face. "Ellie's not waiting for December 16th anymore."
They both sit up in an instant. "Why do you say that?" Malia asks. Her voice is filled with dread, like she knows what he's about to say. Phoenix's chest tightens as he feels his entire world comes crashing down once again.
"My dad just called. There's been a bomb threat at the school."
