Chapter 3: Back to School

(Sara's POV)

It was 5 o'clock by the time I arrived at Syd's house. I walked through the screen door and quickly sat down next to Chloe in the small living room. "Sara, glad you could finally make it," Brady exclaimed.

"Ugh." I grunted, rolling my eyes, "My Mom wouldn't let me out of the house until she knew where I was going, and we all know she hates you Syd."

"Yeah, yeah whatever. Someone just help me with question fifteen please," my friend replied.

Laughing, Patty leaned over to help her and seconds later silence filled the room. "So are we not going to talk about what happened earlier," I questioned.

That grabbed their attention and David replied, "There isn't much to talk about. We're heroes with elemental powers and we have to save the world. It's pretty straight forward."

With that silence filled the room with nothing but the sound of Brady chewing one of Syd's homemade cupcakes.

Hours passed and then Syd spoke up. "Hey guys just spend the night here. I have enough blankets and we all have our bags for school."

"Sure," we replied in unison. I helped Syd lay out multiple blankets and pillows in the living room for us to sleep on. Her cat Loki jumped on the couch and fell asleep and we soon followed suit.

[timeskip to 8 am]

My friends and I were walking through the gates when we heard a screech from one of the freshmen near the locker rooms. We went over to see what they were looking at. "Is that who I think it is?" Chloe asked pointing to the magazine in the girl's hand. On the magazine was a picture of us in full costume fighting against the Legion Corrupted.

"When was that taken," Patty asked no-one in particular. I shrugged. I hadn't seen anyone else but us at the crime scene.

One of the freshmen walked up to us and asked "Who is your guy's favorite hero from the Elemental Six."

Syd smirked and stared at the younger girl with her disturbing gray eye. "My favorite is Samari. I heard she is mega powerful."

I elbowed her in the ribs and whispered, "You're scaring her and stop being so egotistical."

She shrugged and the freshman obviously relaxed once Syd backed away. The bell rang and we parted ways to our first class. Brady and Chloe went to Science while Syd, Patty, David, and I went to Language Arts. While we were walking, we ran into Ava, Kelsey, Baylee.

"Hey losers, I hope you brought us real food this time," Kelsey cried.

Syd growled, "Um no sorry, but I have one thing I can give you; regret. So back off and stay away from me and my friends." She leaned in really close to Ava and grinned, flashing her canines. The three girls scoffed.

"By the way," Patty asked. "Where is Ethan and Chase?"

Baylee rolled her eyes, "They ditched us, so pathetic. Chase said he doesn't even like us and Ethan has a girlfriend now." That said, they turned and walked away.

David chuckled, "Really, Syd?"

My curly haired friend shrugged and we entered that class just as the bell was about to ring.

I dashed out of my language arts class, eager to get out of that hell pit. David was running close behind me and Syd and Patty just walked out slowly. We all walked out of the locker room and saw Brady and Chloe in the distance. David ran up to the two and started talking to Chloe, while Patty followed suit with Brady. We all grouped up and went over to lunch. I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned around to see Chase with a really worried look on his face. "Guys! Emergency. The corrupted League is back again. Time to suit up." He said. Chloe looked at Chase, dumbfounded.
