Link's POV
There he was. Standing on the edge of the bridge. I know he said not to try and change his mind, but I know I can do it. He has always been my best friend. Always will be. Even if he decided to go through with this. I could never replace him. I know the feeling is mutual. He tells me every day.
"Rhett, come down from there now!"
"If you come any closer, I will jump."
"Okay. But please come here. I need to explain to you how much you mean to me. Just before you go."
"Okay."
He walked over to me and I kissed him.
We held it for a while, and then stopped.
"That's what you mean to me. I know we could never be together, it's pretty much forbidden. But we can have our controversial love in this bittersweet moment. I really love you Rhett. As a best friend, and as a boyfriend. That is, if you want that too?"
"Well, that would be better than jumping off of a bridge. I think I should move back to California with you. We can get the kids back, and give them the love that they deserve. Not the life Christy took away from them by splitting up with you. And, I completely agree with you. We can't be together publicly, but we can do it secretly. We can have a life. We can do the things I've always wanted to do. I love you too Link. More than anything. I feel like this will help us get back to where we used to be. We will see each other every day again. And we can have a proper family."
"I'm just sorry about your kids."
"Can we not mention them? Listen. Jessie, Locke and Shepard will always live on in my heart. But I think it's time to move on. I don't think they are very happy with me. I think I'll do them all proud in doing this. I will always love them, and you and your family."
"No Rhett, you mean our family."
