NARRATOR'S P.O.V.

You pressed your lips in a line as you gazed at the sun slowly setting. Sometimes, gazing out on the balcony would help you calm down but for some reason; you couldn't help but feel upset this time.

You could feel a couple of tears running down, across your cheeks. 'It's just a stupid dance the CCG is having.. Who cares if you didn't get invited..' You let out a sigh and shifted your eyes downwards; watching cars pass by. 

Your lips formed a small smile as you recalled your old crush Kaneki, who was in a similar situation during prom.

~FLASHBACK~

"Ken..?" your voice was soft and low, as you approached the black haired male who was currently sitting down at his desk. It took him a couple of seconds, for him to realize you were there. "(Y-Y/n)..? What are y-you doing here? Shouldn't you be home, now?" he stuttered.

It didn't take you long to notice that the male had been crying. "Nah. I like staying late at school sometimes." 'Just to see you..' 

Kaneki slowly nodded then shifted his stare downwards. 'He got turned down by that bitch..' you clicked your tongue and proceeded to sit in the chair, next to him.

"What did I do wrong.." you heard him mumbled. You watched as a couple of his tears, rolled down his cheek and onto the desk. "Kaneki. Listen to me." you leaned in closer, and placed your hand over his. You felt him flinch, and watched as he lifted his head upwards; his eyes meeting yours. His mouth remained close; waiting for you to continue.

"I think you're amazing. (b/n) just doesn't know how special you are." A small warmth crawled onto your cheeks. You smiled as you gently took his head and brought it close to your chest. "But I do."

"(Y/n).." Kaneki widened his eyes and blushed, at the contact. "Since we're both such losers, and don't have a partner; how about we go to prom, together?" you leaned in closer, inches away from the male's face. Kaneki's blush just kept growing. 'Together..?'

"I-I'd love to, (Y/n)." he smiled and looked at your hand, still holding his.

~END OF FLASHBACK~

Your smile faded as you remembered how he had 'disappeared'. Rumors about him being a ghoul, began to spread like crazy. You had trouble believing that, but you weren't planning on letting go. So you joined the CCG in order to find him.

3 years have passed; but no luck.

However; a couple of months after you had joined, a male who was said to be a half-ghoul had joined the CCG as well. You didn't know why but.. he reminded you so much about Kaneki. You felt a blush crawling as images of the male ran through your head.

"Sasaki.." you mumbled, and could feel more tears coming down. Every single one of your partners and friends, had gone to the dance except you. The only one without a partner. Or so you thought so.

You quickly wiped your tears as you heard someone knocking. "C-Come in..!" you entered back in the building, and closed the door to the balcony. Using your thumbs, you continued wiping your tears. 

"Haise?" your eyes slightly widened as you quickly recognized his odd hair. "Here you are. I was hoping to find you." he smiled and closed the door behind him. "I see you didn't go the dance, either. It's pretty dumb, don't you think? I mean.. with everything going on and-" the male paused and his smile faded as he was able to tell from your red eyes that you had been crying.

"(Y/n).." he walked over to you and placed his hand over your shoulder, causing you to flinch at his touch. "Why are you crying..? What's wrong..?" Haise questioned, holding a concerned look. You shifted your gaze downwards, trying to avoid letting any tears fall.

Golden leaves; looked brown, to me. The world had less color, without you.

A blush formed onto your face as you felt him place his hand underneath your chin, making you look up at him. As his grey eyes looked deeply back at you, a waved of nostalgia came over you. 'Kaneki.. no.. Sasaki..'

"Tell me what's wrong." His hand reached out to yours, gently holding it. You averted your gaze for a second and found yourself trembling, due to his touch. He seemed to have noticed this, but still held your hand. Letting out a sigh, "..I wasn't invited by anyone to the dance. Saiko.. Akira.. hell, even Juuzou went with someone." You pulled your hand from his grasp. "Even you."

Haise widened his eyes, then smiled. You suddenly felt your heart ache, 'It's the same smile..' "I wasn't invited either. Er, well.. by Mutsuki but I had to turn him down." he scratched the back of his neck.

Shapes in the sky; looked plain in my eyes. The world had less color, without you.

You raised an eyebrow and crossed your arms. "Why would you turn him down..?" 'At least he was invited by someone, unlike you..' Haise walked closer towards you, "I was planning on inviting you." You allowed him to grab your hand again. "Me..?" tears were beginning to form.

"Y-Yeah.. I was hesitant though, cause I was certain that someone beautiful like you has been asked already. I still went to the dance alone anyway, but couldn't find you anywhere." he awkwardly chuckled. 

"I think you're amazing, (Y/n).  The others just don't know how special you are." he pulled you close and wrapped his arms around your waist. You allowed your tears to fall, as you enjoyed the warm feeling of his embrace.

"Ken..?"

"Yeah?"

"Thank you.."

"No.. thank you, (Y/n)."

I know, plenty of people with eyes closed. They don't see you, like I do.

(Haven't found my notebook yet, but I was watching Shrek & when the song came up, it gave me an idea. Hope you enjoyed it! Shrek has a good soundtrack btw. Makes me so emotional lmao :'0  )
