Chapter 20:
By the time we came back to the lake, the sun had gone down. Dad lit lanterns around the lake's clearing lighting it up in a bright orange glow. My speakers were playing a loud song and dad was dancing around with the girls as Andrew attempted to twirl mum around.
Father spotted us first and grabbed me to dance with him and I went willingly. Dad twirled me around, picked me up and finally as the song slowed down near the end, dad took my hand in his and started to slow dance with me, the girls stood of to the side and watched happily.
"How did it go?" dad whispered pulling me closer to him. I smiled even though he can't see and looked over to Alpha, who now was sitting the same spot as before.
"It was good dad, he promised he'll be better." I wrapped my arms around dad's neck and hugged him as we swayed. The song ended and Andrew wanted to dance with dad.
We stayed the whole night dancing and singing and obviously eating, dad danced with everyone not including alpha, and with every dance he made me put on a song dedicated to them. The night drew darker and as mum packed away as alpha asked me for a dance.
I put on a slow one and took his hand, I then guided his other one to my hip, the sparks lit up every nerve in a thrill I never felt before. I was on top of the world for that short minutes, time seemed to speed up and in no time, we were walking home.
Liam was in my arms and Alpha walked next to me holding his bags. The sparks dulled down but every time our arms brushed they'd spark the way lighters do. He looked straight ahead all the way back to the house, as if deep in thought about god knows what.
"Victoria Allen! Are you in there? Baaabe I think she's died." Dad knocked on my head trying to get my attention. I looked at him with an exaggerated bored look and walked past him to put Liam in his crib in the kitchen.
"Vici baby, can you wash the girls and get them to bed please? Josh take Liam and Andrew and wash them up as well, and no sweets for any of them." Mum ordered and got busy emptying the baskets, she noticed alpha standing awkwardly to the side and took Liam's bags from him and gave them to dad.
"Alpha Hathaway." I caught his attention while I picked up my bag along with the girls, "Come on lets go upstairs."
I waved him over and he followed with a short good night to my parents. He walked ahead of me with his hands tucked in his pockets. I should start calling Alpha Nice-butt because damn that ass is fine, I crossed my arms and looked away so that I don't get tempted to touch it.
At the top of the stair I said my good night to him and went to help the girls shower and dress.
By nine I was finally done with the girls and myself so I snuggled into my bed and pulled my sketch book from under my pillow. I started to sketch from a reference of a sleeping mother with her baby, I changed the face features to match mum's and Liam's, with the rough sketch done I put it back under my pillow and got comfortable.
Alpha knocked on my door and diverted my attention to him. He changed into a pair of sweats and a plain navy t-shirt.
"Come on in Alpha." I sat up immediately and waved him in. he walked in hesitantly and pulled my desk chair to him.
"I was talking to Beta Casper a few minutes ago, he told me that his grandfather passed away a few hours ago," he started. He laced his fingers together and looked away from me.
Poor Casper he told me about his grandfather, he was taken in by him a few years back after his parents passed away... I hope he's not alone, I would wish it on anyone to be alone when you lost the person who took care of you when you needed it the most.
