Eric's pov.
I watch as the tribal moon brand lights up when we were going the right way, it was very extraordinary how I was willing to follow a f*cking magical brand, to gods knows where, in the hopes that it would lead me to where I desired it to take me.
We followed the brand's light for an entire night and day, when it stopped shining brightly and just stayed glowing silver slightly, I somehow knew it had taken us to the right place. I looked around wildly and it wasn't until the moon was at it's highest point in the sky, that they revealed themselves. They were impossible to see in the dark, all you could see was the moonlight reflecting off their white eyes.
"Who dares disturb the mighty clan of Black Scales!" A almost terrifying voice yells and I find it comes from a terrifyingly tiny man, who was dressed like a warrior, he had a crown on his head and I made a pretty informed guess, that this was their leader.
"We wish to petition you to fight with us, to save a...... princess" I say hoping that saving a princess, would entice their egos.
"If you wish for us to even consider leaving this realm you must first beat our strongest warrior in a fight, Richard is of monstrous size and strength, choose who will fight him now." The king says firmly, I look at the pale and shaking Lord Yanth behinds me, I guess I have my answer.
"I will" I say firmly and I wait for Richard to come out.
"Richard!" The king yells and a large tree quakes before a male of monstrous size even when compared to me jumps down, he is my size plus another half of my body. "Meet Richard, our strongest fighter" The king says and then Richard bows before Richard shape abruptly changes into that of a large black scaled dragon.
I look as all the Neits transform into small elf like beings, "You may fight" The king says and the crowd roars surprisingly loud in response.
The dragon lunges at me, I take a page out of Freya's book and hit him on the nose, except I punch and not flick, it also shatters all the bones in my hand, but who really cares about that. "F*ck" I shout clutching my hand to my chest and thankfully it worked and the dragon that was Richard was lying down pawing at him snout in distress.
"Winner, is Eric!" The king shouts and I decide to not care that he knows my name. "You must stay to celebrate with us!" The king says and I was quickly shoved towards an okay sized table, filled with food. On top of the table was also multiple small tables and chairs, clearly for the smaller of their clan.
"Raise your cups to Eric's win!" The king shouts and everybody raise their mugs of what must be alcohol, they all chug it down, though I get a strong whiff of mushrooms and secretly poor mine out.
"Now would you be willing to go to another realm, where you will be rather big and scary. To fight for the freedom of a princess?" I ask and the king looks at me with drunk eyes.
"Will we be able to kill things?" He asks and I nod slightly stunned that they had that much blood lust. "What do you think people, shall we fight for a princess and kill a bunch of things?" The king asks and the crowd roars when he mentions killing things, definitely strong urge to spill blood.
They dance around a large bomb fire and Lord Yanth dances as well, having drunk the mushroom alcohol, he was more then drunk and most likely hallucinating quite a lot of things. They dance until the moon sets and then with drunken farewells, they walk or stumble is more descriptive, they stumble to their respective homes, ready to sleep off the large hangover that awaits them.
Lord Yanth stumbles over to me and attempts to make out with me, but I stop him before he even gets close, I was not into guys. "Come here, let me give you some sugar!" He exclaims drunkenly and I sigh in exasperation, he was always delaying us.
I begin dragging him in the direction we came from, we come across a large lake and I remember it from Freya's memories. It was filled with Atri tears, the tears of cursed lovers, cursed to be forever apart, only able to see each other twice every day, when the sun sets and when the sunrises. It was a lake of vast healing properties and hopefully it would snap him out of his stupor, I chuck him in towards the water, sadly his drunken hands grasp my tunic and pull me in after him.
We both sputter in the freezing cold water, I paddle around in the water, not realizing right away that my hand was healed. We paddle around in the calm water for a long time, when the sunsets I grasp Yanth's arm "Look" I say and we watch as the golden Atri walks towards the lake and meets up with the green Atri, they touch noses and the sun finishes setting, the golden Atri disappears in a cloud of gold tinted sand.
"What are they" Yanth says looking at them with awe.
"They're the Atri, they're cursed lovers, doomed to spend eternity apart, they are allowed to meet twice every day, one when the sunsets and one when the sunrises, one is a deity of life, the other a deity of death. Not allowed to be together by the harsh rules of the universe." I say from memory, Lord Yanth sheds a single tear, his face filled with immense sadness.
"That is so beautiful, what happens if they don't meet each other once?" He asks and I look at him with a raised eyebrow, to the inquisitive question.
"They would be free, but doomed to never see the other again." I say and he rinses his face in the water, to hide his tears.
