"merry christmas to you, too! i didn't think you'd call..." taehyung drifted off when he heard yoongi groan on the other side, biting his lip. his friends and brother were gathering the presents by name, chatting and laughing. taehyung was just casually screaming internally.
"to be honest," yoongi said with another low grumble, stretching. he kicked the covers off and rolled off his bed, landing on the rug with a soft thud. "i just woke up. i have to finish up some work, so i guess i have to wake up early."
taehyung grinned. "it's nearly ten." the other huffed over the line as taehyung brought his gifts closer to him, not paying attention to the eyes trained on him. "i can see you're not a morning person."
"wow, your deduction skills are unmatched, sherlock. it's like you've never passive aggressively stared me down at a local cafe or anything." yoongi stopped talking, eyes wide. did he actually say that? what if taehyung stopped talking to him? what if he didn't understand yoongi was just really bad at flirting? but to his surprise (and relief), taehyung's velvety chuckle made it to his ears.
"i'm sorry. actually, i'm not."
"me neither," yoongi stated flatly, but his cheeks turned pink. he stared at the rug, pulling it at it with his free hand. "anyway, what are you doing on new years?"
taehyung raised a brow at the sudden subject change but answered. "a friend invited me to a small gathering, why?"
disappointed, yoongi sighed into the phone's speaker. "my friends and i are throwing a party. it's an exclusive thing, but a friend just told me some other people were invited so i decided i could invite someone, too. didn't think about you having other plans, obviously."
"sorry."
"is there any way you could ditch those plans and come here instead?"
taehyung bit his lip again. he couldn't help it. if he didn't, he'd probably scream out. what the hell was up with his voice? why was it so low and raspy and seductive? his just-woke-up morning voice was better than his regular voice. it screamed sexiness. he really hated yoongi for it.
"hey, taehyung. it's okay if you don't want to talk. but silence over the phone kinda irritates me. a lot."
taehyung sputtered, snaking his head. "n-no, sorry i was thinking! sorry, but i really can't miss it. my friend asked me and i'd feel really rude declining, especially since i've known him for a while now..."
"and we only talked since yesterday. i understand, no need to say sorry so much."
"sorry."
"there it is again," yoongi said with a small, pleasant laugh. taehyung winced at the sudden weird feeling in his chest. it felt like a sudden squeezing of his heart, and when it was released, a mixture of hot and cold flooded his thorax. all this over a second-long laugh over the phone. "i wish i could talk with you forever, but i really do want to get all my shit over with so i have free time for the party. i just wanted to call you to wish you a merry christmas... and..."
"... and?"
"to be honest, i was hoping i'd get to hear your morning voice but you sound wide awake. i'm just shaking sleep off right now and you sound like you've been up for hours." yoongi rolled over on his back and stared up at the ceiling. "but no, your voice is gorgeous as ever."
"m-my what...?"
yoongi chuckled. taehyung's cheeks turned red at the sound. "nervous?"
"of course not," taehyung rebutted a little too quickly.
"i'd love to tease you a bit more but i really do need to get shit done."
"okay."
"yeah..."
"can, can i text you later?"
"of course."
"okay."
"yes, well..."
"uh," taehyung tried, but he just pressed his lips together.
"go ahead, you can hang up first," yoongi invited, smiling widely.
"n-no, you hang up," taehyung replied, thinking of the cheesy couples who always did that back and forth.
"okay. laters." there was a low beep and then nothing.
guess yoongi wasn't the type.
