he looked at the offending alarm clock with a sleepy glare, shutting it off and rolling off his bed with a groan. it was the first day of winter holiday and all he wanted to do right now was sleep, but his manager thought taehyung was capable enough to cover for him while he took time off somewhere in canada.

bullshit.

he knew his brother was still asleep and he had no chance of eating breakfast at home, so he got ready quickly, deciding it was best to hurry and get breakfast on his way to work. he glowered at his reflection in the mirror, upset with everything. he wasn't necessarily a morning person, but he was never this moody either. he was so unhappy with everything. with his sleep-swollen face, with his unruly hair, with the outfit he had picked out. everything just seemed so out of place and infuriating and he just wanted to go back to sleep.

he ended up doing the opposite, entering a coffee shop that had changed owners like thrice this year. at least the shop still existed. other businesses never quite lasted after the fire. he tried to not think about it much. superstitions get you nowhere. he didn't really frequent this place, only having been here when the first owners opened it because they had sales for their entire first week. after that, he preferred going to a fast food chain, or home. everyone was always so chatty in these sort of places and he wasn't in the mood for it today.

but it seemed there was a second exception to the chattiness today.

while taehyung waited for his latte to come out, a man dressed in all black dragged himself in. he wasn't exaggerating. everything visible to taehyung was black. his beanie, his jacket, his shirt and jeans, his hair, even the frames of his glasses and his shoes. he slowly sauntered to the register and taehyung looked away, frowning.

he hadn't seen an emo kid since freshman year of high school.

he pressed his lips together before a smile escaped him, but then he didn't need to try and hide it.

that smile was completely erased when he heard the stranger's voice.

"just give me an iced americano today. biggest cup you have."

sweet lord, that voice was deep.

it was raspy, and had a bit of a lisp, but it was so attractive. taehyung's voice was deep, too, but this voice, with its laziness and texture, seemed so attractive to him. he turned to him slightly, catching him sliding a card and punching a pin in. taehyung turned away again. his voice seemed too deep for someone his height.

"yeah, i got you..." taehyung didn't catch the stranger's name very well because he had a piercing female voice interrupt his hearing.

"tay?" the barista called. taehyung sighed and took the drink from her with a short nod, walking out. his back to him, he didn't notice the stranger giving him a weird look.

"him? no, i don't know him at all. are you sure he was staring?" he asked with a deep frown.

the cashier nodded vigorously. "yes, dude! he was checking you out probably. get it, yoongi!"

yoongi rolled his eyes but gave the cashier a tight smile. "okay, you know what? you're all kinds of weird today. i have song lyrics to start. can you bring my order to my table?" the cashier nodded and yoongi strolled to a small table near the window, sliding his phone from his pocket. he frowned at what the cashier said but shook his head, as if shaking the thought out of his mind.

no distractions now, yoongi thought. it's time to work.
