the small party had unexpectedly blown out of proportion.
taehyung was having fun, but yoongi insisted on going some place quiet, saying he wanted to see the fireworks in peace and not through the television surrounded by sweaty drunk people.
from all the dancing and drinking and laughing, taehyung was slightly sweaty and slightly drunk, so he tried keeping his distance. yoongi noticed this as he led him out of namjoon's place, his hand on the small of taehyung's back.
"where are we going?" taehyung asked timidly, fidgeting with his phone. yoongi leaned against the elevator wall, allowing his gaze to take in the taller of the two. why were his pants so tight?
"a valley view," yoongi responded simply. taehyung decided to look up, regretting it instantly when his gaze met yoongi's. his brooding gaze was cold, far from welcoming, but his stomach still did flips inside him. neither of them said anything as the elevator continued its descent. yoongi unabashedly stared and taehyung shyly stole glances. the elevator doors opened and yoongi pushed the younger out, leading him to the car.
taehyung wasn't one for breaking laws, but yoongi speeding, going against the clock, was exhilarating and oddly satisfying. taehyung leaned into the seat, smiling and feeling the purr of the engine as yoongi wound through the tight, hilly turns. it was dark up there, the only light coming from the moon and some houses peppered here and there on some hills. they finally made it to about halfway up the highest mountain in the small range, parking in spot specifically separated for viewing the valley. taehyung was still smiling when yoongi killed the engine. the older had turned, about to say something, anything clever to impress the blonde, but any thoughts vanished as he saw taehyung smile at the outside world, eyes framed by bright bangs and cheeks tinged pink, most likely due to the alcohol.
yoongi could stare at taehyung for years.
he stared at the clock; only four minutes until midnight. he yanked his door open and climbed out of his car, motioning for the younger to do the same. taehyung hesitatingly slid out, looking around. "h-hey, yoongi... there's no... bears of snakes here, right? it's safe?"
yoongi knew very well there were even coyotes up here but he stretched his hand out to taehyung, pulling him in closer when the blonde took it. "don't even think about that. appreciate the clear sky, instead. it's pretty, isn't it? away from all the light pollution of the valley, you can even see the constellations. look, orion the hunter is right there... and if you look there, that's sirius. tonight's the night it shines the brightest, did you know? every new year's eve."
taehyung was paying more attention to the other's voice than his words, but he still heard everything he said. he was amazed yoongi knew all this, even more amazed that he kept the same monotonous lilt in his voice as he pointed with his left hand, his right still gripping the other's. yoongi's thumb grazed his hand before twining their fingers together. "it's almost midnight, are you going to make a wish?" taehyung asked, looking at his phone screen. it was currently less than a minute away, and some fireworks began to invade the sky prematurely.
yoongi hummed, the sound rather guttural, and looked up at taehyung. "maybe a few extra inches so i won't have to tiptoe for our second kiss."
yoongi's blunt answer took taehyung by surprise, the younger clearing his throat harshly and looking away. "s-second? when's the first?" the sky suddenly lit up different colours, fireworks shooting up from various directions simultaneously, so yoongi took this as his cue, letting go of taehyung's warm hand to cup the younger's face in his hands and kiss him, standing on his toes. the kiss was unexpectedly sweet, yoongi's chapped lips barely grazing his, long, cold fingers gently cradling his face. taehyung was in heaven as he kissed back, just as softly, revelling in the feeling of finally knowing what kissing yoongi felt like.
nothing could compare to this feeling.
yoongi pulled away, heels once again on the ground, and gave taehyung an unexpected, but very well welcomed, smile. the corners of his eyes crinkled, his perfectly straight teeth showed, and taehyung leaned down for another kiss, earning a brief burst of silent laughter from the older. taehyung pulled away quickly, embarrassed by his unexpected actions, looking away as best as he could, since yoongi was still holding his face in place. "t-thank you for ending your year with me," taehyung mumbled over the whistling and popping of fireworks.
yoongi grinned his gummy smile once more before letting go of his face. "thank you for starting your year with me, taehyung. i'll try my best to make you happy, if you let me."
and there was no way taehyung kim was saying no to that.
