I don't even know where to begin. There was way more folks on the bill advertised.
It opened with Kelsey Lu, who's new to me.
Next was Moses Sumney who is just amazing. I'm lucky to have seen him before.
Then KING. I've seen these ladies three times I believe. I discovered them because K. Dot sampled them on his mixtape Section.80. For the Prince fans, listen to them. P loved these girls.
Then Kelela. My Ethiopian queen. K came out in an silver foil looking dress and still killed it. Then she closed her set with The High. 🙌🏾
Then Blood Orange. My god, he sang damn near every song I wanted him to. But when he got to the one below I almost died.
I know y'all probably wondering, where's the video? I recorded some shit on Snapchat and maybe two videos on my phone. They look so bad.
Anyway, Solange finally took the stage and immediately had me ready to cry. Of course she opened with Rise. She did some more tunes from A Seat At The Table and outta nowhere switched it up to some of her old stuff.
As I watched a lot of folks sit down because they didn't know her old stuff 😂😂😂😂, my goofy ass stood straight up singing along to Losing You, Bad Girls, and a few other oldies. I was waiting on that good Looks Good w/ Trouble but it didn't happen 😑. So, here I am, playing it at the house. 🤣
Back to the show, as I'm sure y'all know, a nigga was waiting on her to sing F.U.B.U. When she sang that, she walked into the crowd singing with every person of color in her path. 🙌🏾
As it came towards the end, the musicians went off AGAIN. It was amazing. I did get a nice clip.
I wish I had kept recording. Right as I cut, she was bringing all the other acts onto the stage and as a collective they performed Rise (Reprise)
Inside, my heart was exploding. They sang it with sl much conviction. They gave that single word so much power. It was beautiful and what bothers me is that I think the entire show flew over some peoples heads. I say that because I think the actual album flew over some peoples heads, but I digress. From the placement of the band, to the choreography, this Cosmic Journey is something I'll never forget.
Oh yeah, I spent damn near $100 on merch.
