Come the following evening just as she prepared to tip in, the house mother turned her away.

"You're not working tonight, Red."

"C'mon, Linda, I got rent to pay next week."

"I get that, but someone asked about you. Paid me a pretty penny to steal you away for the evening."

Red nearly flipped her shit.

"So, you pimping me out now?"

"It's not even like that," Linda reassured, digging into her pocket." He paid your tip and told me to give you the rest."

Red eyed the wad of cash. "What?"

"Yup. You're little weekly visitor must really have a thing for you." Stuffing the rubber-band wrapped bills into her palm, she smiled. "Shit, go enjoy your Friday night, kid."

Walking to her car her mind raced for miles. Miles per minute trying to figure out why on Earth he'd do such a thing. "Oh shit, the diner..."

She hopped in her car, driving up the block to the 24 hour joint she'd previously mentioned to him. Going on a whim, she walked inside.

"Welcome to Here All Night," the waitress at the counter greeted. "Have a seat anywhere ya like and I'll be right over."

Red scanned the room, her eyes trailing over every occupant, until she spotted him near the window in a booth. A small cup of hot liquid steamed in front of him as he checked his phone, typing away on the device as she approached.

Slipping in booth, settling directly in front of him, he immediately locked his iPhone. He sat it away from him on the far end of the table.

"Hi..." she muttered.

"Surprised?"

"In a way," she admitted, before rummaging through her purse. "Here, take this," she ordered placing the money on the table. "I can't— I told you I'm not that kind of girl."

He tilted his head to the side almost mockingly.

"Well, you're certainly not the average kind. So, please, keep it. Think of it as any other Thursday. I know you're missing out on money by coming here."

Red sighed in defeat, stuffing the money back in her purse. "Umm... thank you. I really do need it."

"Would you like something," he waived the waitress over. "It's on me of course."

The waitress who initially greeted her trotted over to their booth. "Hello again. I'm Lisa, here's a menu for you," she placed the menu in front of Red. "Anything what can I get started for you, miss."

Red skimmed the back of the drink menu, before setting it down. "You know what? Can I just get a coffee? Black?"

"You sure can?"' Lisa flipped over the coffee cup and filled it just below the rim. She glance over at the fellow. "Refill for you dear?"
