Devin. What is he doing in that room with Thomas and that other man? I could only hear the muffled conversation, only slightly making out bits and pieces, but none of relevance. I was currently positioned behind another trashcan, go figure right.
I heard his black dress shoes clicking against the marble flooring. I placed a hand over my mouth in hopes of preventing any possible noise to escape from any orpheus of my body. From my crouched position, I saw him nearing the exit. He pushed against the double doors, looking both ways before he exited, filling the room with the last traces of light.
What is he doing there? Were they plotting something against the company? Whatever it was, I had to get in that room and search for any possible clues about their whereabouts. I emerged from my crouched position, sore. I crept quietly with my back against the wall, towards the room.
I neared the room slowly, making sure no creaks could be made with the clicking of my heels. The door knob was in my grasp. I was so close, but a large hand clasped on my shoulder.
DEVIN'S POV:
Stare. Staring. I felt eyes boring into me as I walked down the seemingly endless hallway. No one, but the janitors knew about this place, according to Niko. Even then, they only make it halfway and turn back. Lazy asses. Light? What the hell is light doing creeping into this area? Sure this hallway was dimly lit, but this light was much too bright.
As I neared the source of blinding light, I could see the crack from the double door. Thomas is awful at fully closing doors. I shook my head in laughter and pushed through the double doors. I stood out there for a good fifteen seconds before I went back in. I couldn't just let this intruder into that hallway. Just by being in that hallway, they already know too much. I reentered the dimly lit corridor and I could hear the distinct hushed clicking of heels against the marble flooring.
A women or Scott aka Sky.
With just a giant stride separating me from her crouched position, I could make out the basic format of the unknown figure. It most definitely wasn't Scott. Her back was towards the wall, outlining the curves of her figure. Her head was tilted towards the door, so I couldn't make out her face. She inched slowly towards the room. I couldn't let her know.
I grasped her by her tiny shoulders, earning a quick yelp from the mystery woman. I spun her around to be faced only by a familiar person.
LILA'S POV:
The sheer strength of his turn almost made me fall into his chest, but I didn't. One awkward moment avoided. I connected eyes with none other than Devin.
"Lila. What are you doing here?" His voice dripped with kindness, but he was hiding behind a mask.
"Uh-uh-uh. I saw the door slightly open and I thought it was the uh bathroom!"
"The bathroom?"
"Yeah." I nervously chuckled hoping he wouldn't catch me in a lie.
"One of the janitors told me it was going to lead to a bathroom. He must have been wrong. Well I better get going." I nervously let out another laugh and scurried out. God damnit Devin! I was so close to finding out what was in that room! I'll come back tomorrow!
DEVIN'S POV:
Her stuttering. Her tripping over words. Her glances quickly off to the side. Her fidgety fingers intertwining and shaking. It was clear as day she was lying to me. Why would she be lying to me for something as simple as that? Maybe because she heard our conversation!
Should I tell Niko? Should I tell Thomas? I doubt she heard enough. That door, at most, only lets out muffled noises and that's when you're talking at your loudest possible volume. Should I still let them know? My mind was waging a war against each other to tell Niko and Thomas or just let it go.
My decision making was cut short when a rather blushed Thomas with a crooked ascot fled the room with a grinning Niko following behind him. His eyes leered towards Thomas's backside as he left. His delighted expression faltered once he saw my panic stricken face.
"Devin, what happened? Why do you look so panicked?" I ran my hands through my hair and let out a strained sigh.
"Niko.. I think Lila heard part of our conversation. I think she knows." I maintained eye contact with Niko only to see his fists were clenched and his eyes were darkened to a midnight black.
"What makes you say that?" His teeth were gritted and his words came out short and simple.
"She was here. She was just about to grab the handle door open before I pulled her away."
"Devin." His body exhaled a large breath followed by loud laughter. He wiped at the tears forming at his eyes from all the laughter.
"You are such an idiot Devin. These doors only let out muffled noise. You can't even hear Thomas and he's a screamer. You had me worried there for a second." He chuckled yet again and clasped his large hand onto my shoulder. Well, I guess I have Thomas dick particles on me now.
"Lila is a curious child Devin. I'm her brother for god's sakes! I grew up with her. She's curious, but she's gullible. You just tell her the board was talking about something involving the company and BAM! Just make it convincing. Got it little brother?"
"Well of course BIG brother."
AUTHOR'S NOTE:
Harry's POV will be coming up in the next couple chapters. I'm sorry for lack of his POV, just wait and see when we get to his POV to know why he's been a bit absent.
