Chapter Two

Mackenzie

Brynn drove us right to Annie's house after school.  All of our guy friends were on the varsity football team.

We dressed in leggings and long sleeves since is was late September, and we did our hair and makeup since basically everyone from the school goes, and we wanted to look good.

Around 6:45 we left and headed to the school.  Hayden was the schools quarterback, Johnny and Hayden were wide receivers, and Connor was a running back.

During the game we didn't really pay attention, mostly because we didn't know what was going on, but I couldn't keep my mind focused, i kept thinking about this morning.

And how weird it was they were fighting then, and why my dad was home, and why he wasn't at work like usual.

Our school won the game 49-14.

It was a school tradition that when our team wins, we all flood the field.

We ran down there and surrounded our players, and that's when someone called out.

"Can I have everyone's attention!"

We all looked up and saw Hayden standing on a bench in front of everyone.  Everyone quickly went silent.

"Now I know this persons big on romantic gestures, so this is what I have come up with.  I want to ask this girl out tonight because she's been nothing but supportive to me and she is probably one of the prettiest people I've ever seen."

Me cheeks started heating up thinking that he was talking about me.  I couldn't believe he was going to ask me out the same day we had our first kiss. 

But I didn't really care how fast we moved, just as long as it happened.

"So, Annie Leblanc, will you be my girlfriend?"

I felt my heart drop to my stomach, and my vision because blurry because of the tears forming in my eyes.  My mouth was hung open and I couldn't close it.

I looked up at him and made eye contact and  he smirked at me while he pulled her into a hug.

And that's when I lost it.  I turned around and pushed through the crowd, and ran into the bathroom.

I locked myself in a stall and leaned against the wall, slowly sinking down to the floor.

I was the only one in there so I let my sobs come out as I felt my heart break into a million pieces.
