--Eddie's POV--
I over-exaggerated a little bit as I loudly groaned, sitting on my bike. It was dark outside now. Mom is going to be pissed.
"Don't be such a pussy." Richie said, riding up next to me. "I'll ride with you back to your house. No one is going to kidnap you."
"Yeah, no shit." I roll my eyes and wheel off, he follows behind me.
"So," I start, trying to make small talk. "Read any porno this week?" I don't know why I said that. It just came to mind first.
"Nah, man. I don't need porno."
I press on my brakes. "What do you mean, you don't need porno??!!" I exclaim, stifling my laughter.
He shrugs, smiling. "I guess I'm finally into someone. My age."
I push off again and start moving forward again. So does he. "Who's the lucky lady?"
He laughs awkwardly, and I look back at him.
"Here's the thing. It's actually really funny." He brushes his thick curly hair back, still laughing. He looks flustered. "It's not a girl."
I feel the blood rush to my ears. "Oh." I manage to spit out.
"It's no biggie. I think he just sees me as a friend, so I won't be in a gay relationship anytime soon." He pedals ahead of me.
"Well, who's the lucky guy?" I say, catching up to him so we're riding right next to each other.
He looks over at me, smiles, then looks back ahead.
That damned smile.
"Details are unimportant. We're here."
He's right. I stop right in front of my driveway and give Richie finger guns.
"Thanks for everything Richie. I surprisingly had a lot of fun with you today." I tease him to beat the awkwardness of our last conversation.
"Yeah, no problem. Tell your mom I say hi." He winks and rides away.
"Asshole!" I yell after him. I can't seem to stop smiling.
I go inside. My mom is asleep.
She opens her eyes so they're half- lidded. "Eddie, please remember I like to have you home before it gets dark. You never know when a homeless man might ask you for money." She warns before closing her eyes again.
She's been kind of slacking on her strictness since the whole gazebo situation. It makes my life way easier.
I quickly go upstairs and change into a tee shirt that's way too big for me.
I lay back on my bed and hugged my pillow.
Is it possible that I'm the boy that Richie likes? I mean, he jokingly pines after me all the time, and honestly, I kind of love it. Maybe I wouldn't mind being in a relationship with Richie.
I mean, sure. We'd probably fight a lot. But fighting is our thing. And our friends might find it strange, but honestly, Stan definitely has a thing for Billy. I can see it.
I think of Richie resting his head on my shoulder and smile again before closing my eyes and falling asleep.
