I'm quite the slacker

--Eddie's POV--

When I woke up the next morning I didn't feel Richie's arms wrapped around me, and of course I almost had a panic attack.

But then I remembered that he and Bill had promised Stan that he'd start going to church with him on Sundays, so I stood up smiling.

I changed my clothes and practically skipped down the stairs while combing my hair.

Maybe I could hang out with Mike today. He's usually not busy on Sundays. And I bet Bev could tag along too.

I was just about to leave the door without my mother noticing when I heard my mom screech from the bathroom.

I backtracked to the bathroom where my mother stood in front of the mirror angrily. I had almost forgot.

I almost forgot about the dick drawings on her round face.

Without thought I sprinted outside, I could still hear her screaming my name at the top of her lungs. I'm not letting her ruin my perfect day.

I didn't dare go back for my bike, so instead I just walk the thirty minutes to Mike's house.

I shiver all the way there.

Mike lives on a farm, and I constantly try to convince him to bring me into the barn so I can pet the cute animals. But he always shakes his head and says it's not a petting zoo, then changes the topic.

I knock on the door, and it takes a couple seconds for the door to open. I try not to scream when I see that it's Mike's grandfather. He's so scary.

He slams the door and I hang my head in disappointment, turning to leave. Until, of course, Mike opens the door.

"Hey, Eddie!" He grins, slapping my back in a friendly matter. He's still strong though, and it stings. I still smile back. You can't not smile back at Mike.

"Hey!" I reply, starting to walk down his driveway alongside him.

"We picking up Bev and Ben like usual and heading down to the diner?" He asks, turning a corner onto a path headed for the more populated streets of Derry.

We've been hanging out a lot at the diner since the whole situation with it. We all may act like it's past us, but we still fear that going back to the places we used to go will bring back shit that we don't want to remember.

"Yes to Beverly. Not Ben. Remember the birthday party that he's been talking about for weeks? Apparently he really likes the birthday girl. So yeah, no Ben today." I shrug.

"Ah." Mike concludes, still smiling like a fool. I think he really appreciates having people to talk to.

Having friends.

We walk in a comfortable silence, one of us laughing once in a while. Mike and I's friendship was unexpected, but I sure am glad to have it.

Soon we had reached Bev's house. We had all thought that she was going to move away, but her aunt ended up moving here, so it all worked out. And boy, am I also thankful for my friendship with Bev.

When we got there, she was sitting on the front steps. She knew we were coming. O course. She hopped up, approaching Mike and I.

"I'm sure Ben is having a lot of fun with his girlfriend. You'd think his friends would be more important." She jokingly pouted.

Mike chuckles, "Yeah, screw relationships. I'd rather have a ton of cats."

Bev laughs back at Mike. "I agree completely."

Ah, my asexual friends are bonding. I think Bev may be interested in both boys and girls romantically, but I believe Mike simply doesn't want any kind of romantic relationship.

When all of your friends are closeted, it's tough to guess what they're into, okay?

After some small talk, we headed toward the diner.

Today is such a good day, and it's all because of my night with Richie.
