No one was happy with this- least of all Papyrus. He shivered, pulling his long scarf closer around his bones like a shawl. He'd been waiting for over three hours, but still he stood in the cold, waiting for Sans to arrive. He had promised they would practice special attacks today after he was back from work, but there was no sign of the short skeleton.
Running impatient, Papyrus dialed Sans' phone, tapping his foot in frustration and from the cold.
"Hello?" A voice choked out.
"Hello, who is this? May I talk to my brother Sans?" He asked.
"Oh. You must be Papyrus. Sans told me so much about you. Please come up to New Home, and meet me outside the Judgement Hall." They hung up.
Papyrus was very confused and concerned, and sprinted to New Home as quickly as possible. He skidded to a halt as he reached his destination, bowing deeply. "King Asgore! I didn't think I'd see you here!"
Asgore sighed. "I was the one who called you hear Papyrus. I have some bad news, I'm afraid." His voice was full of sorrow.
Papyrus' brow wrinkled in concern. "Does Sans know yet? You should tell both of us at the same time."
"I- I can't tell Sans, Papyrus." Tears filled the king's kind eyes.
"What? Why not?"
Unable to speak, Asgore stepped aside, allowing Papyrus to step cautiously into the Judgement Hall. He gasped, stumbling back, tears blinding his vision. "It- It can't be-" He ran and collapsed next to the pile of dust, picking up the classic blue jacket.
Papyrus hugged it, bawling. Sans has never told Papyrus he was the Judge, probably to protect him. He was probably right to do it. After who-knows how much crying, Papyrus heard a crinkle, and he slowly pulled a small, withered note out of the left pocket. The paper was crisp, and slightly worn around the edges. It seemed Sans kept this note in his pocket at all times, and rubbed the edges with his fingers. It read:
Hey Papyrus,
If you're reading this, something probably happened to me. By know you probably know I was the Judge. Yeah, I figured I'd better not tell you, because you wouldn't like me being in dangerous situations. Well, clearly you were right. You were always right. I'm sorry I couldn't always be there for you, Pap. I love you more than you could ever know, okay? Stay determined, buddy.
Love ya,
SansJust a quick, sad shot. I also cleaned it up and posted it on Amino, so find the better version there, I guess.
For those of you waiting, my next book is officially starting this Saturday! At this point, I think it will be updated once a week, so look forward to regular posting again!
Love you, my little stars!
