(Haylees's part- two months later)
" That goes here!"
I back up as the boys set the recliner down in the corner. The last piece of furniture finally.
" Alright guys, pizza and drinks are in the kitchen. Have at it!"
" Man I'm starving."
Logan whipes the sweat off of his face and heads to the kitchen with Ryan at his side. Simon sanks into the chair panting. They had been working all week, getting the house ready. The ninty-eight weather was making it even worse. Ever since we bought the house Austin's been busy with work, so the boys come over to help us out. We still had some work to do but we had finished the living room and our bedroom. Just seven more rooms to go. Simon walks pass me heading towards the kitchen. Passing by Logan and Ryan with slices of pizza in their hands.
" Hey I better get home my son's having a game today."
" Yeah I better go to I need to shower before work."
" Oh alright thank you so much for helping us!"
" No problem Haylee, thanks for the food, call us if you need anything."
They walk out the door leaving nothing but Simon's shuffling in the kitchen. With a sigh I walk over to the radio turning it back up again. I stand back looking at the living room. Taking it all in my first actual house. It was just as I had imagined. A big backyard and a soon to be handsome husband included. Our wedding, just four months away. Tyler in Jail, Lacey getting better, after being diagnosed with mild Depression and severe Bipolar. She now takes the meds she needs. It took some time but I was finally able to forgive her. I won't ever forget but Max was able to forgive her, if he can, then maybe I can. I run my fingers along the picture frames, laying on the couch. Austin giving me a piggyback ride. The picture taken catching us both in a moment of a laugh. The day we went on a picnic with Zane. I smile and pick it up, putting it on the wall. Taking a step back I admire it on the wall
" The house looks great Haylee."
" I always pictured my house to be like this too."
I smile, it was rare to hear Max and Brittany talk anymore. I missed them sometimes, I just accepted them being there. They had been there for so long, when they just stopped it was like a missing piece in our lives.
" You need to start getting use to it Haylee. We won't be here forever."
"What do you mean?"
" Haylee? Are you talking to me?"
I quickly turn around facing Simon who stares at me confusingly.
"Si- I was talking to myself about.... the radio."
" Oh funny sounded like you were talking to someone."
" Nope just making fun of the broadcaster. He says some weird things sometimes."
" Who talks about weird things?"
I let out a breath of relief as Simon now looks behind him at Austin, who just walked in. He smiles at Simon, wiping grease off his hands.
" Apparently Broadcasters do."
" Well they probably are I mean why not, right?"
" I guess so b-"
" But thanks for helping today, feel bad for not being able to help as much. The house looks amazing though baby!"
He walks over giving me a big kiss. I roll my eyes feeling the cheesy smile on my face. I slap him as he tries to sit down.
" Don't sit on the couch! You're dirty!"
I stick out my bottom lip, pouting and cross my arms. Simon rolls his eyes and walks towards the door.
" Well I should get home, see you guys this Saturday?"
" Yeah see yeah man."
" Bye Simon!"
He waves, shutting the door behind him, I fall back into the couch with a loud groan.
" Finally he's gone."
" You were talking to them weren't you?"
" Yup thanks for covering for me.I don't know why we keep this a secret. Maybe they should know."
" Well I don't think Max and Brittany will be here much longer so there isn't a point in telling them now."
" What do you mean?"
My eyes follow him as he takes his shirt off, throwing it in the hamper.
" They won't be here forever Haylee. I need to take a shower wanna join me?"
" Oh sure babe I'll be there in a minute."
" Don't take long!"
He winks, heading up the stairs disappearing out of sight. I stand up, twisting my fingers around my necklace. Are they going to leave? I know they need to rest and go to heaven or where ever ghost go too but.... why are they going now? What if we need them? Maybe I'm just being selfish they should rest. They deserve it after all they've done for us. But... what if I can't let go?
" Day the waters getting cold!"
" I'm coming babe!"
" I promise you'll understand later Haylee."
I look back feeling his presence next to me. They really are leaving for good?( Brittany' s part)
" It's almost time Max."
I stare at the door, that was getting more visible as each day passed. It's been here for a week now, but it had been nothing but a blur at first. We knew what it meant, Max watched it everyday. The temptation in his eyes genuine enough. Now though that desire was hidden, he was afraid to leave her. Even now he stands at the stairs looking up. I wrap my arms around him, laying my head on his back.
" She'll be alright Max, she's happy now. She's not hurt anymore and now she's safe."
" I know but aren't you worried?"
I look back at the door, picturing the things behind that door. Max turns wrapping me into his arms. Looking at the door too, thinking the same as I was we both wanted it.
" I will always be but this is best for us and for then. It's time Max."
" I know it is."
It's our time, finally.
