Chapter 16

Hey guys!

So, chapter 16 now. I don't know if I'm gonna keep this book going. I'm sorry but no one seems like it. I love all of those who are interested but I can't do it unless I get more support. This isn't a done deal, but I'm considering it. So without further ado..... Chapter 16....

I looked at Zack as I woke up, he was still sleeping, so I decided to look around the house a bit. I pulled myself out from his arms and walked out of the room and looked down both sides of the hallway. Dark, both ways. I didn't know which way to go, so I went left. I saw pictures of a family, they looked so happy. I saw a little girl with cake on her face, smiling with two teeth missing. She seemed so happy. I used to be happy like that. I didn't notice I was crying until I felt the tears going down. I wiped my eyes and kept walking. I saw a door at the end of the hallway. I opened it, which led me into a huge pink bedroom. It must have been the little girls because there was toys and teddy bears everywhere. I walked through looking at all of the toys.

"Why are you in here?" Zack said behind me. I jumped and turned around, "Just wandering around, the girl looked so happy." I said pointing to the picture of her hugging a teddy bear. "Yeah....." He said trailing off. "We need to get moving. The closest town is 4 hours away by walking." He carried on. "Oh... Yeah, let's get moving." I said walking back to the room I slept in to grab my phone. It was fully charged. I came down the steps. "Ready?" He said moving his hair out of his face. I nodded and opened the door. I took one last look at the beautiful home, and left.

After four hours of running/walking, we reached the town. I looked at the sign, 'Welcome to Freight Heights'. Well that seems great. "Are you over 18?" I asked Zack. "Yeah, why?" He questioned. "So you can get us an apartment." I said. He slowly nodded and we began walking into the town. I was on the lookout for a apartment complex, whereas I think Zack was looking for a McDonald's or something to eat. I saw a McDonald's, so I tried to look away from it so he wouldn't drag me to it, but to my demise... he saw it. "MC FUCKING DONALDS!!!!!" He screeched as he grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the greasy death trap. As I entered, I got a few stares from a group of teens sitting in the corner furthest from us.

"Hello, May I take your order?" A girl with a name tag that said Jenny said. "Umm, yes I would like a double cheeseburger with no onions and small fries and a sweet tea." Zack said. "And for you?" Jenny said to me. "Just a small fry and a Oreo flurry." I said. We paid for our food and sat down. "So, What's our game plan?" He asked me with ketchup on his face. "First, this." I said, wiping his face. "Then, we get an apartment and jobs. Once we have enough money, we get a car. I am tired of walking." I finished. He nodded because his mouth was full, then replied, "But, you haven't finished high school. How are you supposed to get a job?" "I'm sure there's somewhere that will hire a 17 year old." I said, finishing my fries. He just shrugged and finished his food too.

Then, we began our search. Seeing as it was only 11 a.m., we had plenty of time to find jobs. As we were walking down the street, I saw a boutique with a sign that said HELP WANTED, so I went in. I was met by skinny red headed girl, "Um hello. I was wondering about the help wanted sign in the window. Is the job still open?" I asked. "Yeah! And by seeing the way you look, I'd say we'd be a fool not to hire you. You start tomorrow." Wow. That was easy. "Oh, I never caught your name!" I shouted to the girl. "Serena! You?" She replied. "Eva!" I called out as I left. I was met by a happy Zack when I got out of the door. "Guess what?" He smiled, "I got hired at the hotel down the road, and they said that we could live there for a few weeks until we got onto our feet."

"Okay, how did you get the job?" "Well I went in, and the owner and his daughter were there, and apparently I caught her eye because after a few minutes of talking, he offered me the job and said that we could stay there for a few." He said all too fast. "Okay so we have a place to stay, jobs, now all we need is a car." I said. We began walking, aka me following Zack to the place where we would be staying. Once we got there, he talked to the clerk and got a pair of keys. "We're on the second floor, first door on the left." He said. I followed his instructions as I got into the elevator, Zack went into shadow form and just glided his way there.

When I got to the room, I noticed there was only one bed, but there was a couch so I could sleep on there. Then I noticed something else. Zack was laying on the bed, watching tv, shirtless. It gave me a second to notice that he had quite a few tattoos, the most noticeable one being a heart on his left side of his chest saying a quote or something. My thoughts were interrupted by Zack. "Like what you see?" He chuckled. My face began to get red. I covered my face to hide my red cheeks. "Awww, don't cover your face! I find it cute when girls blush. Especially really pretty girls." He said right before covering his mouth. I looked at him confused, "What?" "Nothing." I looked around the room. It was nothing big and fancy, but it had a living room, bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom so I guess we were covered.

I was about to go to sleep on the couch, when I got a call. I didn't even bother looking who it was, I just answered it.

"Hello?" I said, half asleep.

"Eva, you have to help me. Stiles is coming to look for you." Scott said, panicking.

"What? Does he know where I am?" I asked.

"Yeah, and he knows who you're with. He had his dad hack your phone so he could hear everything." I was wide awake by the time he said that. Not even one day into a new start and my old life is coming back to be a bitch.

"Alright, I'll wake Zack up. When do you think he'll be here?"

"Seeing as I'm outside your window, any time now." He said as I looked outside my window. I woke up Zack and opened the window for Scott. "Who. The. Hell. Is. That?" Zack said, pointing at Scott. "I'm Scott, her friend from home, and you are?" Scott said sourly. "Zack, her new best friend and the person who you get to go through if you try to take her home unwillingly." Zack said, getting in Scott's face. "Umm, Eva, why is his eyes glowing?" Scott said, looking kinda scared. "I'm a shadowmasker." Zack said disappearing from sight and reappearing beside me. "What's that?" Scott said spinning towards us. I mouthed the words 'I'll explain later' and he just nodded. Then I saw the one thing we'd all been waiting for....

That old blue jeep parking right in front of our window....
