Lydia's POV

I know my daughter very well. And I know what she would like or want. Yesterday, she was angry at the uniform. But, today, even though she didn't say it. I knew she finally thought it was okay.

I could tell she wasn't interested in the school when I mentioned it to her yesterday, but since the time I drove into the school compound, her eyes had lightened up.

'Silly girl.' I thought.

She had grown into a really beautiful young woman. It felt like it was just yesterday I held her tiny form in my hands.

Seeing Lela now, I have no regrets about the decision I made long ago.

"Mrs. Adams, are you sure you want to have this baby? I would like to see your husband as well." The doctor said.

"I am sure of my decision, doctor. A hundred percent sure. Please, doctor my husband doesn't need to know about this and moreover he's on a business trip." I explained.

"Doesn't need to know? This is a matter of life and death. Your life would be on the line, Mrs Adams."

"I know doctor. But, five years. Five years of marriage, doctor and no child. I have the opportunity now and you expect me to just let it slip? " A tear dropped from my eyes.

The doctor sighed, "It's okay Mrs. Adams. I'll try my best Mrs Adams."

"Thank you so much, doctor. This means a lot to me." I managed to smile.

"Mom!" I heard Lela call.

"Huh? What is the matter dear?"

"I was asking about the principal's office. But, you seemed lost in thoughts. Are you okay, mommy?" She asked.

"Oh. I'm fine dear." I answered.

"Okay?" She sounded unsure.

"Lela dear. Did you know that Golden Pen, has won lots of prizes and trophies for events like quizzes, debates and sports activities?" I told her. I wanted to build up her interest in the school, much more.

"Really? Well, that's cool." She answered as we went up the stairs.

"When we make a right turn from here, we will get to the principal's office." I announced when we were up the stairs. I was gasping for breath and so was Lela. It had been a long climb.

"Okay." Lela answered.

"Here we are." I announced, pointing at the inscription on a door. It read; 'Principal's office' in bold letters.

"Are you ready?" I asked her. I could see how nervous she was getting. She breathed a sigh and nodded her head. I knocked lightly on the door.

Lela's POV

I don't understand why I was getting this nervous. My heart was racing fast. Mommy must have noticed.

"Are you ready?" She asked.

'I don't know.' I thought.

I breathed a sigh and nodded my head. Mom knocked lightly on the door and I heard a tiny voice say, "Come on in."

Mom turned the knob, pushing the door open to reveal the inside of the office. Mom walked in first and I followed behind her. There was a smallish lady sitting on a swivel chair, behind the desk. She wore glasses and was dressed in a brown suit.
