Lela's POV
Like all the other cities I've been to, Port Harcourt was large. It brimmed with people. And, the noise. But, I was used to that already.
I had a business tycoon for a father. Dr. Bassey Adams. That meant that, we were rich. Stinking rich. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bragging, I don't brag.
We just moved here barely two weeks ago. I had hated the constant moving already. The nature of daddy's business kept us on the move, always. We travelled from one part of the country to the other.
I had lost count of the number of schools I had attended. Daddy suggested I'd be homeschooled or something like that. But, mommy wouldn't hear of it. I'm glad she disagreed. No offense but, I viewed homeschooling as something those who had some sort of disability, needed.
I just wish I could stay a while longer here. It would take a miracle for that to happen, though.
“Lela dear, please come down stairs and have your lunch.”
That my mom, Lydia Adams. The best mommy in the whole world, I loved her so much.
“Lela.” Mom called. She stood by my bedroom door.
My room was painted in light blue, with white flowers painted on the wall. Credits went to me for that. I loved painting. So, I took the liberty of giving my room a touch of art. Other works hanged on the wall as well. I had them painted over the years.
“Yes mommy. I heard you. Just give me five minutes.” I was sitting on my bed with my laptop, chatting with some old friends from my previous school.
“Lela Adams. I will not be giving you five minutes. Come down stairs and have lunch, right now!” Mom demanded.
Uh-oh. She used the full names. Trust me, when mom uses the full names, it meant she was angry. Like mad. But, the funny thing here is that, when mom was angry, her facial expression won't tell. She's one of those people who has this smiling face. Like they never frown even when angry. Always smiling and I think it was due to the fact that they possessed high cheek bones.
“Yes boss.” I said, shutting my laptop. I jumped to my feet.
“I'm coming now, mommy. Are you still angry?”
That smiling face. How could I tell? She just had to speak in order for me to know if she's still angry or not.
“It's okay dear. I'm not angry anymore. Di dia mkpò. I just heated it up. It grew cold before.” Mom answered as she crossed her arm over my shoulder and led me out of my room.
“My favorite.” I said when I was seated on the dinning table.
Mommy had made Jollof rice. We did have a maid and nanny, Eka-ette. She took care of all the house chores and me too. But today, mommy had made my favorite herself, and specially for me.
I loved Jollof rice and Indomie noodles. They were my favorite. There was boiled egg on my rice. Another thing I loved, egg.
I was sitting on this table with just mom, because, I am an only child. Something about mom not being able to have a child after she had me.
Daddy was away on a business trip. He only spent two days with us when we moved here. Although, daddy was away, mom was always with me and I never lacked anything. Sometimes, I feel like I am being spoilt too much.
“I was at your new school yesterday. I finished the enrollment process.”
“Okay.” I said, uninterested as I ate a piece of egg.
“What's that tone, Missy?” Mom asked.
“Nothing, mommy.” I gulped down my glass of water. Mom was giving me a look, it made me uncomfortable.
“What's the name of this new school, mommy?” I asked, trying to seem interested. That should save me from mom's lectures.
“Golden Pen Academy.” She smiled. Duh. Like she always does.
“Nice.”
“Yeah, I know. I got your uniform too. It's in my room. You can try it out when you are done with your food.” She was grinning.
“Sure mom.” I faked a smile.
When you attend new schools almost every term, trust me, it gets boring. Trying new uniforms every term. Seriously, it's annoying. It was already two weeks into the first term and I was going to a new class. Maybe that should be a thing of joy but for me, it wasn't.

“This....this is the uniform?” I asked holding out the uniform with an irritated look on my face. I was looking at a white short-sleeve shirt, a short grey skirt, a black tie and a red pullover that had the school's logo on it.
“Yes. It's pretty, right?” She had her usual smile on. I swear, this time it was annoying.
“N-no. It's not. It's ugly. Like really ugly.” I said briskly.
“What? But, there is nothing wrong with this uniform.”
“According to you mommy. I can't wear this. No, I won't wear this.” I flung the uniform on the bed.
“Lela! Please, please. Don't start.” Mommy pleaded.
“But, I can't wear that mommy.” I said, pointing at the uniform on the bed.
“Please, for me, Lela. Wear it for me, please.”
I crossed my arms over my chest. Mom's plea softened my expression. I looked at the uniform on the bed again. I was utterly disgusted. Red? That wasn't one of my favorite colors to be frank.
I looked into mom's pleading eyes.
“Fine.” I dragged the words. Mom's face lightened up.
“I'll wear it mommy. If that pleases you.” There was a small smile on my face.
