***REWRITTEN***
Life with the Blake Brothers
Chapter Seven
I laid awake all night with thoughts of my dream whirling about my head. My phone read five thirty in the morning when I carefully unzipped the tent and climbed out, careful not to wake him, or anyone else up. Nobody else seemed to be awake as the top of the sun began to peak over the horizon and my sights were set on the dock going into the lake.
I don't like Mason like that. I couldn’t like Mason like that. I’ve known him forever and we’re living together. That’s just wrong. So why did I have this dream and why am I still dwelling on it? Did I want something more than a friendship—no! I can’t and I won’t. I’m a teenager, we have these kinds of dreams so all I need to do is shake it off and forget about it.
“Why are you up so early?” a familiar voice sounded as he sat next to me and dipped his feet into the water. “You’re not an early riser, never have been. Only when something’s bothering you, so what is it?” Oliver asked.
I glanced at him and silently cursed at how well he knows me. “There’s nothing wrong. Just thought I would watch the sunrise. It’s been a long time since I saw one.” I lied but he saw right through it, shaking his head but changing the subject.
“So, you and Mason huh?” he asked pushing my shoulder with his own.
“So, you and Jackie huh?” I retorted doing the same thing with my shoulder to his.
“Touché.”
We sat in silence as we watched the sun rise. Listening to the birds sing and the crickets chirp. The smell of fire was lingering in the air. It was peaceful, something I needed more of in my life. With my mom and her new husband, I was always busy with wedding plans to actually have any space and peace. And that was one thing I have missed most.
“I really did miss you Lexi.” He says, draping his arm over my shoulder. “It’s been a long time.”
“I know.”
“And you’ll be gone soon." He sighed, visibly disappointed.
“I’ll visit more.” I promised.
“You said that last time.” He pointed out, casting me a sideways glance.
“This time I mean it.” I held out my pinky finger and he latched his with mine. “But for right now, until I leave, let’s enjoy it. Alright?”
“Alright.” He confirmed.
I could hear the chatter of the people not far away from where we had set up camp. You could see the RVs from where our tents were sat up on the hill. It was still only me and Oliver awake from our group of friends as we made our way back towards camp.
My stomach growled as Oliver started the fire and put some food out. The smell of food must have gone into the tents as everyone else awoke and I found myself avoiding eye contact with the certain boy from my dreams. I could feel his eyes on me though, burning a hole through my head.
Jackie nudged my side with her elbow and I glanced at her. “What’s wrong?” she asked. I shake my head and go back to picking at the food in front of me. I was hungry when Oliver started cooking but now I couldn't focus on anything but the boy who was sitting off to my right. I could feel him glancing at me but everytime I looked at him all I could think about was that dream.
“What are we doing today?” Brittany asked from her seat next to Kyle.
“Well, we were talking to a couple of guys yesterday. And they are throwing a party tonight. You guys in?” Kyle asked.
