Chapter Twenty Five

Lexi’s POV

Prom. Who would have thought that one word could brings so much stress and money for one night? Teenage girls ambush the malls in hopes of finding that one perfect dress and hoping someone else didn’t have the same thought. God forbid someone was to wear the same dress as anyone else. I personally didn't understand why they both couldn't just look fabulous in the same dress but Jackie and Brittany had explained to me that it was the worst thing that could happen to you. Especially on you're oh so magical night. Magical my ass. I wasn't even going with the one person I wanted to.

You had to find a date and you had to match perfectly. If you were even a shade off, everybody noticed and you were the laughing stock for the rest of the year. Then you have to pick a hairstyle and make up and jewelry. If I knew it would be this much work I would have forgot about prom all together. But I couldn’t do that to Melanie. She was too fragile and sweet. Oh and let's not forget about the nails. Jackie and Brittany had dragged me to a nail salon and forced me to sit down as they worked on me.

So that brings us to where I am now, sitting in front of my mirror as Jackie and Brittany both poke and prod at my face and hair. They had already finished their makeup and hair before starting on me. I sneak a glance towards the clock while says we have only an hour before our dates should be getting here.

Our dresses were hung up on the door to my closet still in their bags and unseen by any male eyes and our shoes laid directly below our dresses on the floor. As the clock ticked down and seven o’clock was getting closer I began to grow more and more nervous.

Who was Mason taking? Will he be jealous? Will it be someone I know? Someone I hate? Do I really want to go with Trent? No, but I can’t let Melanie down. She’s counting on me to do this for her. She was so excited when I told her I would go to prom with her brother. Standing him up or canceling on him would break her heart and I can’t cause her that pain. She’s had enough of that in her lifetime. So as Jackie finished the final touches on my hair I carefully slip into my dress and place my heels on before admiring my reflection. We looked good!

The sound of the doorbell ringing brought us out of our trance as I glance nervously at the door. "Come on girly," Jackie said, "you look great." she assured me before looping her arm through mine and dragging me towards the door to my room.

We could hear talking as we neared the stairs. Michelle was warning the boys about the rules of prom night before we all stepped up to the top stair. The talking came to a hault as everyone looked up towards us. I could feel an immediate blush rise to my cheeks and I caught Mason's eye. He winked at me before kissing Michelle's cheek and promising he would meet us at the dance with his date. He gave me one last long look before slipping out of the front door.

Walking down the stairs, slowly might I add, I felt like I was in a movie or some fairytale. I feel as if I'm floating on a cloud in the most beautiful dress I could have ever imagined. But all I was worried about was falling down the stairs and face planting into the hard wood floor at the bottom. I gripped onto both Jackie and Brittany's arms for support until we were firmly on the ground.
