Chapter 4, friend or foe?

Cory's POV

Everyone just woke up and the first thing we notice is that Jin's already awake. He looks like he didn't sleep at all last night but is wide awake. "Good morning, everyone! Um... Jin, how much sleep did you get? You look tired." I ask. Jin is silent for a little bit before responding, he only ever does this when he's thinking really hard about something. "I barely slept... but something happened that I should tell you about." This catches everyone's attention and we wait for him to explain what happened. He tells us what happened and we're all silent for a little bit, trying to process what he told us. Jess is the first one to do something. She walks up to Jin, stands on her tippy-toes, and places her hand on Jin's forehead. Jin takes Jess' hand off his head and takes a step back before asking, "What are you doing?" Jess simply says "Seeing if you have a fever. Sometimes you have really weird dreams when you're sick!" Jin glares at Jess and yells "I'm not lying or sick! I know what I saw and I know it actually happened!"

"Um... maybe this has something to do with my dream?" Adam says quietly but we all were able to hear him. "Jin did die in the dream and the whole walking through walls thing is something that ghosts do." Adam pointed out. Suddenly Max gasps and starts bouncing up and down in place, "Does this mean we have super cool powers too?!" We all look at him weirdly except for Ross, Shelby, and Jess who giggle and snicker. Max, the hotheaded grump, was acting like a little kid. You could almost see the twinkle in his eyes. He quickly stops, clears his throat, and looks at us with his normal bored expression and frown. "Wipe those stupid looks off your faces and answer my question. Do you think we have powers too?"

"It's possible." An unfamiliar voice says. We look towards the entrance and see two people there. One girl, one boy. The girl has long wavy black hair that's white as snow at the ends and it looks like there's stars in her hair. It reminds me of the night sky. She's wearing a dark grey dress with purple star patterns on it and her eyes are dark blue. The boy looks similar. His hair is black and reminds me of the night sky too except his is short and curly. He's wearing a dark grey hoodie, black shirt, and normal old jeans. His eyes are also dark blue but look duller than the girl's. "Who are you?" Adam asks. He seems angry and I don't know why. I mean, just looking at them is a little bit unsettling but why would Adam be angry? They haven't done anything! ... yet. "The name is Star. This is my twin brother, Nova." The girl says kindly. Both Star and Nova smile kindly at us. Still extremely unsettling. I also can't help but feel a bit jealous of the way Shelby's looking at Nova. Stupid Nova...

"Were you eavesdropping on us?" Max asks, obviously angry and ready to tackle them if they say one wrong word. "No. We just happened to be walking over here when we overheard your conversation. We've actually been standing here for a while." Nova says calmly and smiles at Max. He's not even the least bit intimidated? Wow... that's a new one. Now it's Jin's turn to be suspicious. He narrows his eyes at them and questions them. "So you heard us talking about powers and your first instinct is to believe us instead of thinking we're crazy? That would be slightly justifiable if we didn't just meet but we did, so..." Star rolls her eyes and responds with "Our great great great grandmother believed superpowers exist. She told us she was... friends with people with powers. She has no reason to lie about that." Well, that makes more sense.

Adam is about to say something but is cut off by Nova walking over to Shelby, gently grabbing her hand, kissing it, and saying, "I honestly don't see any reason such a beautiful lady should be living in a cave. If you want, you and your friends can stay with us for a while. We definitely have enough spare rooms back at our place for you all" Shelby blushes a little and looks at us, silently pleading for us to agree. I'm the only one who says no. Adam just doesn't answer and the others say yes. Star suddenly gets excited and exclaims, "Great! Follow me!" then runs off. The others follow close behind her except for Nova and Shelby who walk side by side behind the others. I walk behind them glaring daggers into Nova's head. He turns around, smirks, sticks his tongue out at me, then turns back around. Yeah, very mature.

It's very obvious that the only ones who are 100% okay with this are Shelby, Star, and Nova. Me and the others are being cautious, we still don't know if they're friend or foe but if this could get us farther away from the people who attacked us then we might as well take our chances.

Stupid Nova...
