There was a total week of nothing. Just hanging around the camp. The main reason was because Ava came down and got a staff infection. Most people thought of her as leader so we just tended to crops, stood guard, ate, and slept. For a whole week we were like that. Finally Ava came out of her fever and started commanding us around again.
You would never think that being ordered around would be fun. In this case we were so bored with nothing to do. So when we started getting ordered around it was like we were on cocaine. We were all happy and doing out duties. Another week passed. We had went out on 3 Scavenging trips in that week. Finding food and weapons. We ran into some marines while we were out, but we let them scan us. We haven't been exposed to the spores enough to start changing us.
Now here I was, sitting on my bed. I was looking up through the skylight. It was night and I could see the stars. While I was drifting asleep I counted the stars. Since we were so far away from the actual city there were many to count. One, two, three... It was like counting sheep. In the end I counted a total of 76. Though I could have miscounted and I was not counting again. Then there was a knock on my door. I sat up and put some basket ball shorts on. I walked over to the door and opened it. It was Ava.
"There was some people being loud over there, so I am sleeping here." She threw her pillow on the floor. I was startled at first and I kind of just sat there.
"Uhm. Actually you can have the bed, I can sleep on the ground." I said, scratching the back of my neck. I never actually learned chivalry and all that shit. So I just did what was best and usually failed and never actually had a relationship with a girl. I walked over to my bed and gather my blankets and pillows. After setting them on the ground I grabbed Ava's pillow and sat it on the bed. She glided over to the bed and sat down.
"Turn away." She said.
"Okay then." I looked towards the door.
There was the sound of fabric rubbing. I peeked over my shoulder. I mean come on, there's a girl in my room and I'm not gonna look? I turned away very fast as I saw she was taking off her shirt. I didn't notice this earlier, but her shirt was very long, almost like a night gown.
"Okay." She said.
I turned around and she was already laying down, facing up. I could tell she was counting the stars. Just the way she mouthed the words. Then she said a number.
"78 Stars." She said.
Well I was wrong on my number. I kneeled down and situated my pallet. After that I laid down and faced the ceiling. I slowly drifted away into a deep slumber.

My alarm clock sounded. Waking Ava and I up. I sat up and looked around, rubbing my eyes. It was really bright. I sat there and let my eyes adjust. Eventually they did. At this point Ava had made her way out of the room. I sat up and walked to my cabinet. I grabbed some clothes. As I put them on I noticed a yellow sticky note on my bedside table. On it read the words;
"Thank you for letting me stay, and I stole a granola bar." - Ava
I chuckled and continued getting dressed. I put on a white V-neck short sleeved shirt. I also put on some jeans and work boots. Then I put on a holster and slid a pistol into it. The boots were from one of our recent scavenging trips. They were the perfect size and were very comfortable. My first job today was tending to the zucchini. I didn't mind it because there were only three zucchini plants.
I walked out to the farm and grabbed a watering can. I filled it at the pump and then walked over to the plants. I grabbed a shovel and made sure there were no weeds. Weed wouldn't be so bad in a time like this, I said to my self. Yeah I had some bad habits before the whole apocalypse, but there were no rules now. So I could get away with anything I wanted. It would make a good calming agent.
I smiled to my self. I poured the water over the plants. After putting the watering can away I walked to the cafeteria to get breakfast. When I walked in there was music playing. I actually found an mp3 player and speaker. The mp3 player already had over 4000 songs on it and I imported more. The current song was; "Heartaches By The Number" By Guy Mitchell .
I whistled along and grabbed a bowl and spork. There were scrambled eggs and sausage. I grabbed a scoop of eggs and one piece of sausage. I sat down and started eating. Ava sat across from me and started eating as well.
"Thank you again." She says.
"You owe me." I say smiling.
"Owe you what?"
"A granola bar."
We both started laughing. I took another bite and then heard a loud boom. Ava and I stood up and looked at the door. There was screaming and gunshots rung out. We looked at each other and then dashed towards the door. Drawing my pistol and opened the door, only to find...
